Cigarette Lighter Problems

My 98 TJ has the cigarette lighter and ashtray. The fuse was blown when I got the jeep, so I just went ahead and replaced the whole lighter assembly with another I had in the garage. Replaced the fuse and "POP" blew that one. (When I pushed in the lighter) Replaced that fuse and my cell phone charger works fine, no fuse blow. I know that the lighter pulls more than the charger, but what could be making it blow??

I have to ask, did you use the old lighter? I had one short internaly once. If it was new, maybe it is the wrong size fuse.

I used the Jeep lighter and the lighter that was already in the new socket I installed. Both blew the fuse. I wouldnt really use it to light cigarettes, I just hate it when things don't work like they are supposed to.
