Charging battery without disconnecting it

Hi guys,

Is it safe to charge my 1999 TJ's battery without disconnecting anything, using a trickle charger?

Been doing it that ways for more years than I hate to admit plus Iíve yet to see anyone remove the cables from a battery that was already in their vehicle.
