center console sub

So my stock sub stopped working a while ago. Like an idiot, I just threw the whole plastic contraption out Now I got a new sub to put in, a 6.5 Kicker but don't have an enclosure to put it in. The description says it works well as an air free sub or free air sub - but I'd still like to create some kind of enclosure that will fit inside the center console. I've searched but haven't found anyhting similar.

Anyone ever see anyone build one?

Oh, and the amp will go under the seat so I can use the whole inside of the console pretty much.

Thanks.

free air doesn't mean you can just cut a hole in the console and stick it in...the back of the sub still need to be completely sealed off from the front.

Making that mdf enclosure should be pretty easy...ask your buddies someone has tools and will be willing to help you. Also if you go into home depot or lowes during the day or some time when they're slow they will cut a piece of mdf close to your specs if you make some templates. Then you only need to make the finishing cuts and glue and screw it together.

Yeah I realize that free air doesn't mean that. That's the reason why I wanna build a box for it. Didn't think of going to Home Depot to have them cut it though. Good info.

you may have luck calling local junk yards to see if they'll sell you one of theirs.

An alternative thing to do if you dont have the needed tools/time to build a box yourself you could take out the center console and take it to a local car audio shop and have them build you a box that will fit. Combine that with the measurements/lessons learned in THIS THREAD among others will help a lot.

Keep in mind you'll need an amp since you tossed out the factory enclosure which had the amp in it.
