CD Sterio ground wire

Just curious on the best way to ground my cd sterio wire on my YJ. Should i extend it all the way down to the frame, and attach it their? or is their an easier way of going about grounding that black wire. I know it's a newbie question, but im a newbie at wiring and such. Also if i had a bad or non existance ground in place, would that have an affect if whether a cd player would start or not. i am trying to install this cd player, i have all the power wires wired up to it, but i think i did the ground wrong, and it will not show any signs of powering on.
any tips would be great!!
thanks

no you shouldn't need to extend it all the way to the actual frame of the rig. I don't have a YJ (i have a TJ) but try and find a good place on the metal dash frame. anything metal behind the radio (to a certain extent) should be ok. look for other wires that are grounded back there, too. TEST THE UNIT before you bolt it in to make sure it has a good ground.
