CB - Wilson Antennas???
I'm about to buy my first CB, everybody tells me that the antenna is the most important part of the CB, is this true??
Do you have any experience with the Wilson 5000 antenna?? Is it worth the money?? What about those magnetic (spell check) mounts?? Any good??

I have a little experience with CBs.
Yes the antenna is the most important part of the radio system. Wilson has, in my opinion, the best antennas in the market today. Which one to buy, the 1000 is a good all around antenna, the 2000 is a little better based on the antenna coil and the 5000 has the best coil and the ability to handle a lot of power (wattage). Now the question comes up, which one, how much power do I want to run. First off it is illegal (not the sick bird type) to run power output above 4 watts; that is why the antenna becomes so important. If you intent the CB set up for just trail riding then consider a CB with the minimum of gadgets, keep it simple. The antenna choice is easier than you think. Again, if just for trail riding and a little road use then a 1000 will be fine. If you like to impress people with your knowledge of antenna, buy a 2000 or 5000 (biggy) and tell them the "Q"(inductance) of the coil in these antennas is higher and the higher the "Q" the higher the performance of the antenna. I run a Wilson 2000 for road use and a Wilson Flexi-whip 24" model, for trail, both are good antennas. My wife uses a Wilson Lil Wil for temporary install in her Navajo. I do not believe that you can go wrong with w Wilson antenna. Sorry if this confuses you... Good Luck, Keep the forum in touch with what's happening.

Thanks Nuck'nFice, now I only need to find someone who ships them to Central America. I'm thinking the 5000. Does it matter what radio do I run? It's going to be used on the trail and on road, I need a lot of power because we have a lot of mountains down here.

Most CBs are the same; BUT there are a few that have power outputs in the higher levels. I am not sure what your requirements are or government rules but search the web for EXPORT radios.
The Export Radios will cover the frequencies from 24 mhz to 29 mhz (CB is 27mhz) and will have power ratings just about anywhere you want. Of course the is a catch, these radios are usually higher priced than standard CBs. Keep it small and only order the features that you really need and you may find an Export Radio to fit your needs and price range. There used to be a web store called "Export Radio" but I am not sure if it is still there, check it out... Good Luck, Let the forum know what happening.
