CB Radios.. whats good for an 08 Wrangler?

i have a new 08 wrangler 2-door jeep. since its still kind of new i plan on slowly upgrading it over a span of a few years so that it wont be "too new to get a little dirty" by the time im ready for advanced trails. the problem is i dont have a lot of money right now so i figured i would start small! im looking to buy a CB 40 channel radio to install in my jeep for under $100. im looking at the Cobra 25LTD right now, it has a PA, 40 channels, good price, and 9x7x2 (inches) dimensions. any suggestions?

Two inexpensive radios that have a superb reputation are both made by Uniden, the Pro510XL and Pro520XL. Both work identically well but the Pro520XL includes a PA (public address) function and a mostly unneeded RF Gain Control. Both are under $50, with the Pro510XL being in the $30-something price range and Pro520XL being $40-something. I have been using the Pro520XL for 11-12 years now without any issues.

You can find pricing and descriptions by typing Uniden and one of the model numbers in to Google's pricing website at www.froogle.com/

And a big welcome to JF!!

When you have a choice, buy American made.

+1 on the Unidens. I have a Pro510Xl and love it. Very small and works well. I removed my ashtray and installed mine right there. Combine this with a 4ft Firestik and you are good to go.

I, too, will vouch for the Uniden 510 and 520. The Uniden 510 is by far the most popular unit we have among Jeep owners. The other really popular model is the Cobra 75WXST, but it costs about twice as much. If you're looking for just a basic, well-built affordable CB, you can't beat the 510.

Make sure you get a decent antenna, ground it, and make sure to tune it with a SWR meter. The antenna is the biggest determinant of system performance, not the type of CB radio you get.

Best of luck with the new rigs!

Does anyone think the Uniden pc68xl is too large for an overhead mount in a jeep? It says it's a more compact model (a little over 8" x 6")... although a little larger than the 520xl. I like the pc68 since it looks shinier!

I have the Uniden 538 in my ZJ, I like it a lot. The 538 comes with weather stations, I use that function a lot. I spent closer to $175 on my whole setup though. When purchasing any CB equipment I would highly recommend www.rightchannelradios.com, customer service was second to none and they will go to the ends of the earth to make sure everything you buy from them will work flawlessly.
