I went with Uniden PRO520XL and a 3' Firestik on a spring, pretty happy with my setup.

Looks pretty good! whats your power source for the radio?

Any other places to mount the CB? The top part of the dash is my favorite spot to put my phone while playing the radio....

The battery, ran my wires through the drain plug in the firewall behind the pedals.

I used to use that too, if you mounted it towards one side of that tray you should still be able to fit your phone up there. I usually use a cup holder for my phone now.
Alot of people mount it on the side of their console by the shifter, behind the console, or overhead, or on the top left part of the dash (above and to the left of the gauge cluster).
Ideas in here:

Or if your a crazy wj guy I put mine here

Attachment 882961

And I am running a Cobra 19 ultra III, with a 3ft firestik, so far works good on the trail and even on the freeway.

I also went with the Uniden Pro520XL and the 3' Firestick. I have mine mounted to the left of the steering wheel using the Rugged Ridge mount. It just fits, but it fits.

How the radio? You like it? How about the antenna. Is 3' enough or 4'?

Any Uniden, Cobra, or Midland CB will be fine. Simply pick the features or the size you want to have. I think RF Gain and some switchable noise circuitry are necessary. As rule, the taller the antenna you use, the better the CB works. Choose whatever size fits on your 4x4 trails and wherever you need to park. 3-4 ft CB antennas are the most commonly used. I prefer FireStik-II FS tunable antennas.

I decided I'm going to go with the uniden pro 520xl

Cavasar 12-01-2013 10:36 PM

^ Good choice, I'm with CJ7-TIM on the Firestik II 3'. Same setup I have.

If I go with a firestik II 3'. How exactly do you tune it? Do I need to buy a device to tune it? Or can I do it some other way?

Cavasar 12-02-2013 08:13 AM

Yea you'll need an SWR meter, hook up the coax cable from the antenna to one plug and a small coax cable (usually included with SWR meter) into the back of the CB. Then do the tuning stuff on it and adjust the antenna as needed.
