Hey

I tried a search on this and didnt find what i was looking for. Does anyone have a CB radio in their TJ? If so, where did you mount it? Do you think it is a waste of money to get one? Thankya

NOTE: this will probably be in the Audio/Electronics forum when you look for it tomorrow...

it is NOT a dumb idea...they're great for communication on the trails...after having made a trip without one, and then two trips with one, I can't imagine going without one again...

I mounted mine here:

hmmm...already been moved...

there are quite a few threads in here dealing with the same thing...although you can't search for "CB", you can search for "mount"...but you could also just browse the titles...lots of good stuff in here...

CB Mount

Jeep Kidd,

If you trail ride with a group a cb is a must, or if you like listening to hillbilly truckers. I have one for trail riding, but the truckers do get to me. I mounted in above the mirror using a Turbo City CB Radio Mount. It's great and out of the way, but handy when you need to use it. I also bought my cb from Radio Shack and it has a digital Compass display so you know which way your going. It does direction, cb, and weather. Here are some links.

Hope this gets you started.

Just about all Jeep clubs and events require CBs. I don't know of anyone who regularly offroads who doesn't have a CB so yep, they're a very good idea... kinda required ya might say.

Here's my install. Give's enough room for right in front of my legs. Attached the atenna to the tire rack, and ran up the antenna cable under the jeep. Used a hookup to the cig lighter for power.

I thought about putting one there, but I didnt think there would be enough room for my legs. I'll check it out though, thanks alot.

Sparty, you might consider connecting your CB's power leads directly to the battery instead of the cigarette lighter. The cigarette lighter receptical is notoriously electrically noisy which can add noise like static or whining to what you hear and transmit.

Really, permanently mounted 2-way radios should always be connected directly to the battery.

I know...thank Jerry.

I figured that as easy as it was, I'd try it out until it gave me problems. And so far (about 4 mos with it in) there hasn't been any static or whine yet...transmitting or receiving. I'll just chalk it up to dumb luck

I have mine mounted in the glove box. Larger units won't fit, though.

I also thought about putting it there, but then you have to keep the glove box open the whole time you are using it.

I got the Uniden 510 Pro XL, and it's small enough to install vertically on the center console right next to the transfer case shifter. I've never hit it wilh my leg.
