CB newbie

I am interested in buying a cb (with noaa weather bands) on it. I have zero experience with cbs.. I hope someone here would be kind enough to guide me in my purchase.

Heres my requirements:

1. Small size - I dont want a big mama jama cb box unit (concealable)
2. $100 or less (prefer less)
3. Must have some Noaa weather bands (my bootie was just kicked by frances)

I have no idea what brands are good or what to look for. Whats the best place to buy inexpensive cbs from? Lastly, any info on antennas and mounting it would also be greatly appreciated.

My jeep is a daily driver, I just want the cb for a alternate mode of communication and for emergencies.

Thanks!

Ok, since I had time today... I did a bit of research and found a Cobra 18 WX ST II which falls into all of the requirements I have.

Does anyone have experience with this cb?

Instead of the Cobra 18 wx 2 I ordered a Cobra Remote 75 WXST NOAA Weather CB Radio. This seamed easier to hide then the other one.

I also ordered:

4' firestik II
Mounting bracket from Arizonarockyroad.com

Hope install goes well.

Thanks for the help...

Ok, install is finished and pretty clean.

Here are some pics...

Firestick II 3' antenna on arizonarockyroads antenna mount.

Routing wire from firestick/antenna mount to tailgate.

Side view

Rearview

looking down between spar and tailgate

Antenna wire coming out of tailgate into Jeep

Excess wire so when i open and close tailgate there is some slack.

I just used zipties to hold cable inder window rails

Routed cable between rollbar and passenger door frame.

I then routed the cable down behind the door strikeplate support and down the side of the door frame.

Continued in next post...

I then routed under the bottom of the door frame and zip tied the cable

Routed up the side of door frame behind door starp pin and into dashboard. Then I zip tied it to some other cables behind glovebox.

Then dropped the wire down to the center console. Note the red wire is the positive power wire which i ran up to a switched outlet. I used the socket that is located next to the 12 volt light socket

I took the dash apart and wired the cb into the 12 vlt switched accessory socket (the one without the writing).

The cb is easy to uninstall and reinstal. The remote part of the cb is hidden under the change box (above gear shifter) I then can even stuff the cb in there when i leave the vehicle. More then likely I will take it with me or leave it in the trunk when not in use.

Hope you like it.
