CB Location

I have searched for this without any good returns, so here goes.

I've got a Cobra 29, and I'm wondering where the best place to put it is. I've had one before and it was where the stock ashtray is located, just wondering where everyone else has theirs and what might be the best place?

Also, what is the best/easiest place to run the antenna?

Thanks in advance

Mine is mounted onder my dash. I have a second fuse panel from the battery for the power and i have my 4' Firestik mounted on my tire stopper. Works great!

i have mine right under the dash where the ashtray was. i have a small Radio shack speaker right next to it pointing up.

I mounted the antenna on the driver side just above my tail light and routed the cable through the bottom of the tail light, up the grommet, and along the side where the hardtop cables are, all the way to the CB.

The best location I could come up with before I made an overhead console for it and my ham radio was screwed directly to the middle of the rollbar. It was between me and the passenger, the speaker was close to my ear, the CB was out of the way, and the microphone hung conveniently down so I could leave it in the cup holder or on the passenger seat. I mounted it so it faced the winshield. I could see the controls and channel indicator in my rear-view mirror, it was a great location.

That sounds like a really good idea actually... Got any pics?
Oh and whatd you use to make the overhead console, I'd really love to build one myself but I just dont know how much it'll interfere with my headroom.

The first pic shows the CB as I used to have it mounted, it works really well if you don't have a better location... and I did not until a couple years ago.

My current overhead radio "console" is really nothing more than a piece of 1/8" sheet aluminum bolted on top of the center spreaders that are part the rollcage. That foam stuff in the lower picture is just rollbar padding.

When I bought my Jeep, the Cobra 148 was mounted on the passenger side. It was in the way of the passenger and hard to reach.

At the time of that pic I had removed the ashtray. I wanted move it and I wanted the ashtray back. So I mounted the CB where the ashtray was and mounted the ashtray to the bottom of the CB.

As for the Antenna, I mounted it to the inside of the tire stop. I didn't have to drill any more holes, and it was somewhat protected. Also it was just high enough for my 4' stick to get decent reception, and make it into the garage. I ran the cable along the upper part of the frame for protection, and out from under the taillight.

With regards to your antenna, the question is: Are you willing to drill holes? If the answer is "yes," then you can mount your antenna onto your rear bumper or either side of your rig. If the answer is "no," then your might consider mounting to your rollbar (If you have one) or purchasing a nice hand held CB. Speaking from personal experience, having a hand held CB has got me out of many jams. With my hand held CB I was able to climb to a higher place and make contact with people that have pulled me out of trouble. Personally, I like having a CB unit in my rig and much as having a habd held too so I have both. Also, if I am on a run with another Jeep without a CB I can loan them my hand held during our expedition. I hope that was able to help.

I like it, especially since its speaker faces forward and gives better audio than others I looked at. Its unusually high 75w output capability is nice since many of the desert areas I wheel in don't have repeaters close by. It is certainly feature-rich and capable of doing many more things than I am capable of learning (or at least remembering) how to program into it.

My Cb

I installed mine this weekend. Went well. Pretty easy.

I liked this mount better than the ones i see most people use.

Ran the coax through taillight

Mounted the mic on the dash

No way my little legs can ever hit it.

All in all pretty easy and straight forward.

heres what mine looks like. ripped out the old useless ashtray and mounted the cb where it was. Made the antenna mount out of 1-1/2" angle, and routed the cable under the tail light, up through the grommet on the wheel wells, and up to the cb.
