cb antenna probs

I installed a cb a month ago, it was working fine after it was tuned. This is the second cb i've installed in my life so i'm somewhat familiar, but not a genius when it comes to them. Anyway, i started to not get any static when squelched. I thought it might be the ground. I went back and turned the antenna on my gutter mount and got static back. it must have been a connection issue I thought. Then i went back and loaded it by pressing the mic button. I lost all static again. Went and did the same thing, and lost it again over and over.

I tore the mount apart and put it back together. It worked and kept the signal after i loaded the mic. Seems to be working just fine for a day.

For future reference, what was wrong? Just a bad connection to ground or antenna?

SWR was fine.

I am going out on a limb here....
If you are using a 3/8 stud mount, they are common to get rust and axidation build up,
thus decreasing the performance.
The stud needs to be cleaned, ( the threads) to ensure good contact with the antenna.
Same thing with the SO 239 / pl259 cox connectors.
On exposed connectors I ussually wrap them up first with electrical tape, and then after
with really gooey sealing stuff. ( just so when IU want to take it out, I slice through to the
layer of electrical tape and take it all out without leaving a gooey mess on the cable.)
Check all your grounds fpr tightness.

Tried that. It's a pretty new setup and I didn't think that could be it. I cleaned the threads out really good and it's back to normal. Thanks. I'm just amazed at how quick that corrosion could happen.

THanks again,
