CB Antenna Location

Just installed my CB today before I came to work. Did not have time to attach my antenna perm. to my spare tire mount. Right now it is just bungie corded to my roll bar that runs vertical in the back. Fits nice under the tops and I can raise it when the tops are down and easy to stow if I leave my Jeep unattended. Got a ground wire to the antenna already. Not sure what kind of reception it gets, but I am thinking about leaving it there. What say ye?

i started by drilling an antenna mount on my stock spare tire carrier ... i think bought a teraflex mount for like 30 which worked out much better, ill post some pics if i can, i still need to ground everything. im using a firestick 2 antenna, and it works good for me .

An inverted "L" bracket on the side of the spare tire carrier is good. I started out with the L bracket on the bumper, and reception was bad at best.

I put mine on the rear bumper. It's a small picture, but it is on the passenger side. You can see the spring which is a quick disconnect. It works great!!

Mine's on an "L" bracket that attaches under the tail light. (between the tail light and the body) With a 4' Firestick, I get good reception.

i got the teraflex mount. MY firestik will snap before that mount will move. I have a 3 foot antenna good reception real clear. and a cheapy midland cb. I dont run a spring because it go irritating on the highway. If i did it again i'd get a midland k-40 cus its real flexible and comparable to a firestik. Hope that helps.

I mounted mine to the spare carrier. $9 bracket from Radio shack. I can get a pic when I get home later.

I've tried about three different locations from the bumper, tire carrier, and finally just above the drivers side tail light. The last location definately works the best. I wasn't thrilled about drilling holes in the body, but I did want the CB to work right too. On the bumper and tire carrier I got a horrible squealing noise from the fuel pump. It drove me nuts. Locating the antenna to above the drivers side tail light got rid of 95% of the fuel pump noise. And my reception and transmit seem to work great. The SWR was much easier to tune too. I'm using a 3 ft Firestick, and a Cobra wx75.

I've read that the tip of the antenna should be above the level of your top. My setup is at the end of my sig, and it doesn't have the best range, but works awesome on trail rides.

This works great even though I have not been able to get the SWR below 2.4 I used co-phasing cable and twin 102" whips mounted on HD springs.

In the woods, the mounts are very flexible and have not caused any problems.

I like the look too :shrugs shoulders: Like a mini big rig

Believe me, you will see a world of difference if you install it on your tail light, or tire carrier.

Ya, I found the best place for it was on the left side on the back bumper. Out of the way and easy to install. I woudln't worry about anyone stealing it, most people don't know what it is/how to work to even have an interest in stealing it.

For an antenna, I mounted a K40 3' fiberglass to the side of the spare tire carrier. I use a quick disconnect, but the 3 footer barely peeks over the roof, so I don't have to disconnect often.

I run the antenna cable and ground wire into the tub, by just going over the top of the hatch.

Another vote for the Terraflex mount - rock solid and a great location.
