The 102 is the longest made for a car and be legal. It's a perfect length for the CB band and a longer antenna wouldn't work as good.

You can buy a 5/8 ground plane to put on your house if you want.

Why would you want longer? Do you have an issue tuning it?

I hope you are tying them up when wheeling? I cant stand when someone has an antenna flopping around, I have seen spotters and bystanders get hit by the long whips before.
If you want to be able to talk further get a Ham license!

Either your CB sucks or your Coax is bad. I have a short loaded antenna and I'm tired of all the skip on all 40 and bleed over from CH6 and 11.

When the solar activity is high, I pick up
out of state with a Little Wil! On the 25th
I was making contacts to Canada, Brazil,
and Puerto Rico, although it was on 10
meters using 100 watts.

Read Thishttp://www.firestik.com/Tech_Docs/CB_Range.htm

The base Base ...Tech_Docs/ has a lot of good info.

I get Skip on a regular basis. I have on my 2 ft Wilson and transmit ~15 mi on average. Today the skip was strong. I heard many conversations, but none that I could tell how far away they were.

My 5watt hand held radio I have talked over 100 miles with the rubber ducky antenna crystal clear, lets see a CB at 4 watts do that!

Pretty much everyone in my group is a ham, and we use it all the time. It is insane to be talking to someone at the campground 100+ miles away (with no cell reception) while I am just getting into my jeep at home.

You running HF, or repeaters? I've made some
good contacts while wheeling, when people
couldn't get cell reception.

The repeater was about 80 miles away, but
I was up there in elevation.

Well then you have the biggest whip already. If your not recieving as well as other people then you have a coax, ground or Radio problem.

Right now the sunspots are effecting AM radio a lot. I can't talk across town but I can talk to Hawaii.

Ya I am normally on repeaters, we do simplex when we are on the mountain. My house is about 105 miles from the repeater we use, I can hit that with 5 watts hand held.

I am not going to tell you what to do or what not to do but an amp is not only illegal but will not help as much as you think... I have seen people with amps cause more harm than good.

If you really want a longer whip go buy a piece of metal but going longer will not help any more as you will not be tuned...

Longer is not always better!
