I have IPF H4 Conversion Lenses with Fatboy Bulbs on order, along with a heavy duty harness from SUVLIGHTS.com.
I'll be getting a Nate's 4x4 style 1 bumper in the spring, and I am thinking about my lighting options.
I am going to get a set of fog lights to mount on the outside tabs, and relocate the stock fogs to the rear for backup/work lights.
Now comes the issue of which lights to get for the front hoop. I was initally thinking driving lights would be perfect, but with the fatboys, i most likely won't see much of an improvement with driving lights. What about some long range lights (pencil beams)?
I really like the look of the Hella 500 series lamps, and my plan was to get a set of Hella 500 fogs. I don't think Hella makes 500 series long range lamps, so where in their lineup would they have a long range light that closely resembles the 500s?
I have looked at the KC slimlines and daylighters, but they both don't suit my style. What about IPFs? Do they make a matching set of pencil and fog lights?
Thanks again everyone, and sorry about the long read!

Hella does have a long range and a fog version of the 500 Series, basically the clear and fluted lens. You might also want to look at the Hella 500FF, they put a pretty nice patter, almost a combo long/fog pattern.

Still no question, wattage is not everything, the relector in the headlight is a compromise, to give you low and high beam, not the best of either. The reflector of a single purpose light does it's job much better, a driving or pencil beam will throw light much further than any high beam bulb you can find.I would venture to say you get better lighting out of a 55 watt driving beam than a 100 watt high beam bulb.
It's not clear if you already have the Hella 500 fogs or not and if your trying to match the "looks" of the 500's. Hella 500's and Hella FF series of lights are in a different class of the performace spectrum. The 500's use a parabolic mirror with a fluted lense which directs the light's rays. The FF's use a clear lense and a computer generated mirror which directs the light's rays. A more precise and optimal (efficient) technology.
If I were to mount 4 lights on the front of my Jeep TJ, I would mount 2 FF1000 driving or pencil beams and 2 FF200 fogs (purchased from the PTC at the above link). Since I have an XJ and already have factory fogs, I will probably get the FF200 or FF1000 driving lights. The light output and distance are fairly close and the FF200 are much less money. The FF1000 pencil beams throw a longer range light, but may be too narrow of a beam for overall effectiveness on the road and certainly for off road.
The yellow and bule link, above is one of this site's sponsors and is related to PTC. Y&B sells new Hella lights and PTC sells repackaged returns, etc for a lot less money. They are both located in the same city as Hella Corporate, so probably get a lot of inside insight!!! Click on the Y&B link, go to performance lighting and then the FF series. Each style gives a visual and dimensions for comparison. Some will give you a light beam pattern/distance. You could also contact PTC or Y&B and see what they have to say.

i have the ipf phat boys and ipf headlight conversion kit, and let me tell you, you will love those bulbs! i also have KC slimlights the long range 130watt ones they do really good throughing the light way out there, but as for some driving lights, i wouldnt waste your money, i have a pair of fog/driving lights, i think by ipf, they dont do much but make the area already lit up by the head lights a little brighter, they do help in the fog though.
