Anyone put 6.75s in the soundbar?
Anyone fit 6.75 's in their soundbar?
I have the brackets on order to put my 5.25 's up front (was dumb and upgraded them and the 4x6s about 6 months ago, just got crappy sound from better 4x6s!) Anyway, I have a new set up 6.75 Kenwood's just sitting around from another project, and was wondering if anyone has tried to fit these in the soundbar, since it's accepted that 6.5" will fit fine. And last question... through many searches, there often comes up the fact that the after 03, the depth in the soundbars changed, and that the 6.5" deal won't hold true. Is that correct?

You say you have them. Why don't you walk out to your Jeep and try to stick it in and see where the screw holes end up? Then let us know how it fits.

Agree. I would say the worst that will happen is the larger speaker may have a larger mounting depth and you may need to use a speaker ring to give it a little more depth.

You certainly make sense there! I won't have chance to really get into it until sometime next week though, and was just wondering if anyone else had tried.

6.5" speakers fit fine into the sound bar's 5.25" openings. It's done all the time and I installed 6.5" speakers into mine years ago with no modifications needed. Just make sure to avoid the somewhat rare "S" type 6.5" speakers which have a deeper/bigger magnet that are too deep to fit properly.

i have some old mb quarts that are 6.75 in my soundbar. They worked out just fine with the grills that came with the speaker. do it up
That being said, i dont have mine connected anymore. i hated hearing so much mid range right behind my head, so i just have subs in the back and cdt comps in the front now

I did get a chance to get at those speakers last night. My 6.75s were too large to get into the recessed opening. I could have trimmed, but... well, no I don't think I could have trimmed, because they were wider than the top (above the recessed part where the speaker drops in)
So I tried the next best thing, I coated the outside of the lip with epoxy and set the speaker on there. It set quick and tight, but I will recheck in another day to make sure it is solid. I won't be able to get the speaker out now if I need to, without cutting through the epoxy, but as long as it holds, I don't see why I would need to anyway. I'll post a pic of this masterful "fabrication" job after it sets. Question... I know subwoofers need to be sealed tight. Do regular (non-sub) speakers matter if they aren't sealed tight into the opening? By tight I mean airtight, like a subwoofer box.

It the speaker isn't tight to the baffle you may have cancellation from the backwave and frontwave meeting, also you may get some serious rattles, but the speaker won't blow as a result of not being sealed.

Jerry, I originally got the 6.75s to put in a ford probe I was working on, but sold it so just had them still here new.
As for finding them, they're on crutchfield. Most seem to say 6.5/6.75 I think.

Well, to add to my original question...
NO, I don't think you can put 6.75s in the rollbar - without cutting/sanding down the edge of the speaker bracket. Again, this is strictly for those speakers that are measured as 6.75, not the 6.5s that also fit 6.75 openings. We know 6.5s will fit in there. My temporary epoxy held for two days, as figured. I was ready to cut the edges my 6.75s when I found another use for them. So it was back to crutchfield to get some 6.5s with a hight rms. Problem solved, now anyway
