Which after market head units work with wheel controls?

Hey,

I wanted to get another Infinity head for my 97 ZJ LTD, but they cost almost as much as something new from the aftermarket.

However, I really like having the radio controls in the sterring wheel. Are there any aftermarket head units that allow the whel controls to work?

i dont know if it will fit, but i just took out my infinity head unit because i put a new unit in, and am trying to sell it if possible. However i have a 99 Grand Cherokee. But it did have the steering wheel option to it.

Dont know if it helps, but worth a shot!

Thanx Jeep girl, but I don't think it will fit. After snooping on ebay, The mounting tabs from the 97-98 stereos and the 99's up look different.

Just curious, but which head unit did you replace it with?

Just curious, why are you replacing it? I have a 97 ZJ too and mine sometimes refuses to tune any FM radio station (plays a bit, then goes to static, then will randomly come back after a few minutes). Is yours doing the same?

I replaced it with a Panasonic MXE CQ-C1200U, since i was on a budget. So far i love it!! I went to Crutchfield, which was a load of help, all the harnesses and wiring kits are free with purchase. Plus if you need help or any questions they are there till 12am.

The CD player kicked. The tuner works great, as does the cassette. But sadly, no CD anymore.

Most remote controlled radios will work with the Peripheral PESWIX interface. This interface will allow you to still use your steering wheel controls with the aftermarket radio.

None that I know of, but you can use one of these SWI-X boxes from PAC to control any head unit that has an infrared remote option.

http://www.pac-audio.com/products/swi.htm

I wired one of these in to my buddy's 2000 Lincoln Navigator with an Alpine head unit. The Navigator has steering wheel controls for the stereo and HVAC controls and it made all of them operational again. There was also a set of controls for the rear seat passengers for the stereo along with headphone jacks, but it would have required another unit so we left them non-functional. Besides, he didn't want people in the back seat messing with his radio anyway.

The install was super-easy for his Lincoln. Literally like 3 wires maybe at most to hook up. Routed the IR transmitter wire down to the center console and drilled a small hole between the cupholders that was at the perfect angle pointing at the head unit.

R.I.P. my old '97 Green TJ that was rear ended. Screw Progressive Insurance for totaling it then low-balling me on the value.
