6.5's in my soundbar
I've done as much reading as I can here and some of you say 6 1/2's will fit in the stock soundbar, some of you don't. Since speakers are next on my list, what is the final word on this?
My thinking on the 6.5's are all things being equal, they should give a bit better bass response than the 5 1/4's. Of note is I'm just running off the head unit, no separate amp and prefer not to complicate/expense things by adding an amp. And finally, what is the size of the front speakers, 4x6? Cheers!

I installed some 6.5's last week and they sound WAY better than the stock 5.25's. I havent installed a amp and they sound great. Do it, you wont be disappointed.

6.5's fit no problem. I didn't use an adapter plate, just drilled through the sheet metal. Its thin. A screw can penetrate it with ease, just watch you don't bind up the fabric covering, cut or push that aside while drilling

Less than an hour ago I put Polk Audio Db650 6.5" speakers in my stock sound bar....I didn't even have to drill new holes. They just happened to match up.
Also, in my old Jeep I put Pioneer 6.5" in and had the same experience. Both were an improvement over the 5.25 stock speakers. BT |

briant:
do you hear any rattles or vibration from the polk speakers in the soundbar? is it a clean sound? I heard some people on here complain about rattle in the soundbar with aftermarket speakers. |

No, I didn't ever have a problem with the Pioneers, and I had them in the old Jeep for 2+ years before I got the new(er) Jeep.
It's probably too soon to say for the Polks. I didn't notice earlier though. They seemed to fit quite snugly. BT |

ok... and you said the 6.5 polk mounting holes matched up perfectly to the factory holes? How were you able to do that when the factory speakers are smaller in diameter?
If they matched up perfectly that would be a very good thing! ![]() |

I don't know how they matched up perfectly.....they just did. Four holes, four screws. It's that easy. I will tell you that it's a b*%ch to keep the soundbar protective pad out of the way so you can get the screws started in the holes.

There are actually very few 6.5" speakers that will not work in the sound bar. Some need minor trimming, some none. If you are not running a sub, I would do it. (If you are running a sub however, I would stick with 5.25" in the soundbar for a fully balanced sound).
As for the dash, it's stock size is 4x6 but that is a really ****ty speaker size. It is extremely easy to upgrade that also to a 5.25" and that is what balances out the system (far more so than upgrading the rear). I strongly recommend the dash upgrade.
