ZJ bumper take off

how do i take off my stock ZJ bumper? i know its kind of a noob question but i just wanted to know. there are about five little plastic push pins on the bottom i think and there are some screws that seem to attach to the rear mudflap. is that all that holds it on?

I usually take the grille off ( just a few screws) then you will see the little things( sorry i dont know what they are called) but they're black and you use some needle-nosed pliers to grab them outa there. Then theres three more on the bottom. Then on the inner fenders you have to disconnect them from the plastic inner fender part. then you should be able to pull it off. However, you have to make sure its pretty level for it to come off instead of yanking it off there all crooked. sorry if this didnt help.

i hit a stump and half the bumper fell off, made it easy for me, but if your planning to put it back on then yea its just those push pin things.

Same as the front. Pop the plastic rivets out and it should come off.

No it wont Brian, he has to remove the black skid stip on the top as well. There are 8 or so pegs in the bottom of that that will come out with it.

3 in each wheel well, 5 or so on the bottom of the bumper and then the black skid strip on top. To get the top strip off just start at one end with a flat blade screwdriver and gently pry each one up.

my 2 cents because i painted my bumpers and cladding too, would be to just to a really good job taping and covering off everything but the areas you want painted. removing them rivets and putting them all back together can be a real pita. good luck either way you go though.

Yup, I think the Haynes manual has directions. Best $20 I've ever spent.

I forgot we had to take off that black skid thing, it's been so long since I took my rear bumper off. I drove around without it for like 6 months before I finally got my KOR bumper.
