75 mph, and everything is just fine, ping! What was that? Why can't I steer anymore?
1. Sheered off the aluminum powersteering pump mount. 2. Serpentine belt tension spring assembly also broke. $80 bucks for aluminum welding $130 for spring tension assembly Priceless is following another ZJer (WestTexas ZJ) who helped me out more than I can say thanks. BTW, here's me on the side of the road. Hunter

I called a salvage yard they didn't have one and they looked in their locator and couldn't find one in the area. I looked up welders on my Blackberry and the 2nd call the guy didn't even hesitate, "Yes we can weld that up no problem". If you don't know that bracket is cast aluminum and about 3/8" thick. While he was welding up the piece I was talking with the owner of the shop and explained the situation to him. We had a sheared bolt in the head and very little room to work to get it out. I asked him if he had a cordless right angle drill motor and some small reverse drive drill bits that we could borrow? He did, and on faith alone he let us walk out with everything I asked for. Went by and picked up the tension pulley at the dealership. and we were in business. Bolted the PS pump back on, drove back in to ABQ to return the drill while Hunter replaced the tension pulley. This all started about 9:00 AM and we started Hunter's Jeep back up and we're on the road again at 2:00 PM. I just want to give kudo's to Childers Machine and Welding in Albuquerque, NM. Eddie Childers was a great guy, and very trusting to let me walk out with a few hundred dollars worth of tools and equipment. As for the $80.00 to weld the bracket. Besides loaning us the tools they dropped everything they were doing to fix this for us so we wouldn't have to wait. |

They tend to have it for the 96-98. It's the 93-95s that are getting short on parts.

Wow... thats good to know there are guys out there trusting enough to do that...I cant say for sure that I would just let a few hundred bucks in tools walk out the door... but I'd like to think I would. And as for the time I lose my steering on the interstate.. I'll know what went wrong. Then all I will need is a good trusting mechanic and some new jeans.
