Yep, still driving a WJ, so it doesn't matter.

Thanks for this. I'm sure a post after the install would be very much appreciated.

I'll still sell anyone an anti-explosion peace of mind kit so you can drive your WJ again since its been parked in the garage for years. You will get the HD factory skid, factory hitch, trailer harness and hitch bezel for $600.

I've installed the new factory hitch that goes below the bumper, I would love to get compensated for it if this recall happens

Out of 2,700,000 ZJs, WJs, and KJs, there have been 49 recorded fatalities in 37 accidents of the type described in the lawsuit that led to the recall, over a span of 20 years.

In statistics, we call such cases outliers. Because they're rare cases that lie outside of what can reasonably be expected. Mounting the fuel tank at the very rear of a vehicle isn't inherently unsafe, any more than mounting it further in the vehicle is inherently safe. The simple fact is, next to nothing survives a high-speed collision, and nothing at all survives a high-speed collision with a laden tractor-trailer, which several of the accidents recorded involved. I don't care where your fuel tank is, physics is a ***** when you combine 70mph and 50,000lbs up your tailpipe.

In the article cited the vehicle that rear-ended the Liberty was a pickup. These are the only passenger vehicles not required to meet government crash safety ratings. That's why SUV's, even Jeeps, have lost their edge. They're made to meet these safety regulations, which means a low front end. The only thing a pickup is going to hit without causing major damage or death is another pickup or something bigger. The possibility of a vehicle hitting a Jeep from behind and it instantly bursting into flames is pretty low. Have you seen the Mythbusters episode where they debunk much of the fear-mongering over this sort of thing? It makes for sensational news though. That's what the news is all about anymore. I also noticed there weren't any photos of the vehicle after the fact. I'd like to see the Jeep or to read the fire marshal's report on the case.
