Iron Dana 44 Install

Here are some pics, more to come,

truss going across top

Iron Diff with tubes welded on it

Going to go with a steel cover and weld a support from it to the back of the truss to prevent rotation

going to have a plate across the back of the truss and then the cover will attach to the truss as well.

Love your jeep! this build thread is pointing me towards the 3" IRO lift and those KOR spacers..

How is the 3" IRO lift? worth spending the extra 250 for the bilsteins?

this is the EXACT setup I wanna run plus extras lol

Im looking to run about 4" of lift and 31 bfg km2's on the 15x8 soft 8's

yours is just making me wanna do my jeep sooner and use my savings!! haha

4" for 31's? You can do that with a BB, or best with 3".

Not sure if I ever posted any pics after I replaced the switches for my lights, got away from the safety switches and went to rockers. So here are a few of my switches, including my ARB switches.

moved my radar detector power from the vent cover to the vehicle info center too

Also a couple with my wheeling tires on as I am going to take it out in a a couple of weeks on a club run.

also an excuse to play with my new Nikon D-90

jeep looks great makes. the idea of removing the aluminum housing on my 44a and swapping it to a steel 44 just to run a selectable locker seems like an good idea. what did you do about axle shafts did you use the stock 44a shafts or did you have custom ones made

I used stock D44a axles for the open carrier non-quadra drive set up.

I built a rack for my CO2 bottle to secure it in the back of my Jeep when I wheel. Three wing nuts and 2 thumb screws and it comes right out.

Love what you did with the 44. I am definitely going to consider this if I ever decide to build an axle up. Did the spline count match for the iron 44 as with the 44a? My only questions for you are..

1. Axle shafts, fit with no problem? I have the quadradrive system..
2. Gears, did you just get 44 gears with the arb locker?
3. Did the tubes need any sort of grinding to get them to fit in?

Im sure i can think of more, but its just something i want to know about

1. Axle shafts from an open D44a fit no problem, your QD shafts would not work, they are the wrong lengths.

2. The center is a standard iron D44 like in any waggy, wrangler, ford, etc. so standard D44 gears and ARB fit just fine

3. The tubes are not inserted into each other. THere is a smaller diameter sleeve that is slid down inside the tubes from the D44a outers and the iron 44 center and then but and plug welded for strength. Then the truss is welded over that. Should never break at the weld.
