Look what I found at the JY. Low mileage, complete, open D44a.

Going to have to regear the front now, any suggestions on lockers? ARB, Eaton, Ox? Want something cheap and reliable, lunchbox is out for the front since I have fulltime 4wd on the 242 that I like to use in the rain, snow and gravel. Will probably toss an aussie in the rear eventually.

What made you go from your IRO/rustys front control arms to the IRO long arms? I have the IRO 3'' lift on and have the same KOR .75" spacers on the way, I was looking around for some adjustable control arms until I saw this build thread....

Great WJ by the way. If I had the cash, my WJ would be very similar.

i was fighting death wobble and was told it would help it. Turns out it was not the control arms but the ride is much smoother with the long arms than the adjustables and it definitely flexes better. Still that being said the adjustables were pretty good as well compared to the stock arms.

D44a install

Well I have the D44a installed that I got a junk yard. I think I am going to do the hack n tap on the TC output shaft and get a DS made. Also got a classic tube 5th brake line made so all the flex is now SS Braid.

Wow, nice build, I got some really good ideas for my rig, especially the non smoking package cubby in front of the shifter! Some thieves broke into my WJ a couple of weeks ago and stole my ashtray because it had six pennies in it! Well they got a lot of other stuff too, but now I have a reason to find that cubby panel.

Also for once, I wasn't afraid to look at your wiring! A lot of other build's I've seen, the wiring is just plain scary.

It's always darkest before dawn... so if your going to steal your neighbors newspaper, that is the time to do so.

Well just did the Hack n Tap on the TC output. Driveshaft is ordered, double cardan on the output and single on the diff.

Nicely done. What kind of bit did you use to drill into the output shaft? Is that the Hack n Tap from IRO?

Whats your plans for matching the front gear ratio?

yes that is the IRO Hack n Tap and I bought their drill bits and tap for $20. The 242 does not have a fully hardened shaft, it is only case hardened so cutting and drilling was pretty easy.

On the gearing I am not sure, I may regear both to 4.10 got to drive it first and see if 3.73 is enough for trailer towing. I also plan a ARB for the front when I regear, that will happen in the next few weeks.

Good to know about the Hack n Tap. I've kept my eye on it but never really saw anyone use it or say anything about it. It looks nice.

After doing my 44a swap, I still think 3.73 isn't enough. IMO, it still feels about the same. 4.10s would be more appropriate. I'm just waiting to regear both axles to 4.10 or 4.56 and throw a Detroit locker in the front. Just need money.

Does your Maglite rattle right there? I have mine mounted on the door panel like that and it

a) rattles

b) has fallen out twice

c) managed to rotate just right to where the clamp pushed the button to turn it on overnight

Mine is on the back part of the door panel, so I'm wondering if moving it up front like yours will help any.
