Been working on my friends ZJ engine swap last week, converted the 4.0 out of the blue 93 parts ZJ, into his 98 ZJ, which he got almost for free with a shoot engine
So we took the chance and pulled the engine out of the blue parts ZJ, noticed That the Transmission was not same, AW4 93 vs 42RE 98, Also all sensors, dizzy, torque converter, and more was different so we decided to use the block only from the 93, and swaped over intake, exhaust, dizzy, torque converter, flywheel and everything. New oil filter, rotor, cap, sparks and wires,,,
Ok, quite confident we done everything right, we tried to mount the engine, F, something wrong here guys
flexplate dont line up with the engine/trans holes,,, WTF!!!
So by further investigating we found the AW4 and 42RE flexplates Are differ, auch bummer. So next, where the H is the other flexplate??? Everyone??? Its inside the blue parts Jeep already at wrecker 3 days ago,,,
Short story, 1 week later, another correct flexplate from Sweden, lesson learned the hard Way.
Ok so this weekend the engine mounts in fine, no problems with That, flywheel boltet together with converter. Start to mount up power Steering, AC/dynamo,,,, AND serp belt F dont line up with the fan/waterpump wheel, auch!!!
Seems like the 93 waterpump wheel have differ offset, and the the oil pressure sensor was different and we needed to buy another for the 98, plug was differ to. Lesson #3 i guess.
Ok, today monday morning comes, Lucky Jeep day today
Got my hands on water pump and temp sensor, suprices me they got it on shelf, local, dirt cheap
I grabbed the parts, Went over to my friends shop and supriced him with the parts.
All Went well together, new water pump, temp sensor, and grinded off the tap That interfered with serp belt, then we mounted fan and radiator, AC radiator, hooked everything together, check all fluids, time for test start.
WROOOOOM at 2th attempt with the key, guess we needed to let the fuel pump fill the rail, wow cool jepp Jeep jippi, it started right up!!!
At first it got a bad rattle/tick
But after 2 min idle, we shut it down, Rechecked/toped off all fluids, then we let it idle for another 15 min,,,
tick/rattle sure gone by now, idles and runs smooth like a clock
Rechecked/top off oolant, engine oil, trans fluid again, another30 min idle, everything looked perfect, runs smooth and Nice, no Leaks so far, assemblied front fascia, grill headlights, test drove it around the block a couple times, runs strong and tight, everything checked out Good, all gauges shows perfect
Big thank to EVERYONE who helped out in Haralds shop and all info we got here at JF, it was a great adventure, also learned very much out of this project, Really cool to save another Jeep from the wreck yard, its sure a Nice Jeep, my buddy Will enjoy it
