Winch Not Going Out

The other day when me and my brother went wheeling, we got caught up in some snow and we needed to use the winch. When we tried to use it, we plugged it in and pushed the out arrow on the control handle (i guess thats what you call it), and it wouldn't come out only in.

So if anyone can tell me what might be wrong or if they know that would be fantastic.

Thanks!

1.) you don't have power from the battery

2.) your solenoid is bad

3.) your controller is bad

4.) you have loose connections

Its most likely a solenoid issue if the winch will power in but not out. What winch do you have?

^ My vote. I had this happen on a milemarker e8000 once.

Heres some extras, (his brother speaking, or typing?)

Its a smittybilt XRC8, the controller button lights up when you press the out but nothing happens. Dont notice a change in idle or anything.

Where could we find a solenoid, in the plugin box?

If ya know someone with a controller you can try. Would eliminate that. Or use a jumper across the pins on the box. 1 is hot, other two control in/out.

You should probably call Smittybilt customer service. They could probably give you more info on troubleshooting and cost of repair parts. Good luck.
