WiCkeDuDe's Dual 2002 WJ Build Up Thread

I havent started a build thread so I figured this might as well be the time. I have a 02 WJ with the standard 4.7 engine and factory select trac 242HD transfer case, then added the vari-lok diffs front and rear and regeared to 4.10s. The previous owner never changed the oil apparently and I lost part of the timing chain tensioner and started to spin some rod bearings. I didnt discover all the sludge until tearing the block down.

Anyways I got the block back from the machine shop this week and thought Id post some photos. I decided to build up this 4.7 to be better than the 4.7 HO even.

My block was okay but had to be decked 0.007 to square it up so im pretty worried about the compression ratio as its about 10.6 to 1 on paper. I probably will have to order some custom cometic thicker head gaskets. I also had to have the rod journals on the crank turned .5 mm (0.020") to clean up the spun bearings. I also had the heads gone through and installed new guides, seals, and did a valve job.

Here is what I have bought to put into it.
Ross 9cc Dome Forged aluminum Pistons with floating wrist pins
Factory rods honed for floating wristpins
Comp Cams 26113-16 valve springs
Mopar 4.7 HO camshafts
Total Seal Gapless Piston Rings
Clevite 77 rod and main bearings
2008 4.7 Factory Intake Manifold
SCT Tune

Hopefully I can get this done in a week or so as time is hard to find right now. Talking to the guys over at airram I should be able to get about 270 hp at the wheels with this setup. I was figuring about 325 or so at the flywheel so this seems about right.

How much would you say this has cost you? Ball park is okay. I want to do this eventually.

I finally had some time to work on this thing. My dad popped the sbc in his truck so I had to help rebuild that the last two weeks. Between that and school my schedule is toast. I finally finished filing my pistons rings today and got some of the pistons dropped in.

Me too. Im just worried about pre detonation running so much compression - 10.6 to 1. I decided I will run it and see what it does. If it is horrible I will throw in some thicker head gaskets. One thing that supper concerned me is that I thought the 4.7 had that one knock sensor but it doesn't. Thus there is no way to retard the ignition timing. I will always run it on premium of course anyways but that might not be enough.

I have been looking at the MSD knock alert that is an after market knock sensor system. I want to know if there is detonation or not. It is possible to have some damaging detonation and not even hear it while driving.

Meet my new 2002 that I just got done building up after it spun a bearing and I purchased from a friend.

This 2002 has the 4.7 HO. Already swapped in the 242HD. Lift kit is the 2.75 KOR spring BFYB kit with RE monotubes. Tires are BFG all terrain 265/70R17s.

I changed a few things on my silver 02 the last few weeks. Got the 4" teraflex system FINALLY working fairly well. Added the second steering stabilizer, JKS quicker discos, CNC'd my wheel spacers, and installed longer ARP wheel studs. Also got my rear JKS arms working well at 18.75".

For those of you looking to add a 2nd steering stabilizer in addition to the factory one this thread is for you. There are a few places that offer a kit to add it but they are way overpriced in my opinion. I'm into my kit only about $70, most of that being the shock. I thought I would share so others can do this if they want.

The 2nd SS attached to the trackbar and the steering drag link. NOTE - This writeup will NOT work for factory trackbars. A smaller clamp is need for factory trackbars, though it should work in theory using the same instructions.

To get started you need the clamps from the front toe draglink from a WJ. You are after the clamp that attaches to the original SS and then the one from the tie rod end. The part number for the SS clamp is 52088872AA. Kolak sells them for about $10. I do not have a part number for the tie rod end clamp. I don't believe Jeep sold them separately, but only with the adjuster sleeves. Im sure there are after market ones available that will work.

Below is a picture of what you are after. As you can see the clamps are different sizes. The bigger SS will clamp down to 1 1/4". The tie rod clamp goes down to 1 1/8". The factory track is thinner (1") than the after market trackbars, hence why these clamps wont work as shown below in the pic. I am running the JKS adjustable front trackbar in my WJ for this writeup which is 1 1/4".
