The only thing I had to get done was having an inch taken off the rear driveline. Mine was too long, and the doner one was too short. The whole thing could have been done in one day, other then waiting on the shop to shorten the dl. It's worth it.
Hopefully mine goes as smoothly, i am pick up the case on friday, but i am not sure how soon ill install it, is your jeep lifted at all? do you think the drive shaft would of fit if it was? and i assuming the front was fine? does the VIC recognize the 242 and what gear it is in ?

I only have a 2" bb. I couldn't tell you how much lift would make the original dl fit without having to shorten it.
I don't think I have a "real" VIC? It just has the pic of the jeep in the center with the 4 wheels lit up. There are no buttons on it either. It doesn't display any of the modes except a light comes on for 4lo. But you can feel the gears, and grabbing a 242 bezel helps.

if there is, or even if there isnt, it may be a broken Piston. the car will pull to the opposite side the problem is on.

Yeah it has the smell of burning brakes. But it boggles my mind cause I just did them the end of September and all the components worked fine and nothing seemed to be broken. I have the wheel off now and everything still seems to be in working condition.. I think it's punishing me for not giving it a bath...

i had my brakes done and a week later i started to smell burning brakes, and it was pulling to the passenger side, so i checked the driver side caliper and the piston had broken and it locked shut.

Score...
94Grand Cherokee - 1
94Lincoln Towncar - 0

Got rear ended today in my Son's GC on my way to the vet with our cat.
Got thrown about 6 to 7 feet forward since the pavement was very slippery with tons of rain.
19 year old girl driving the Lincoln was not paying attention, (she said she was looking at her phone, but I think she might have been texting) and just plowed at my Jeep stopped at an intersection. She was fine and got out of her car by herself.
I was taken to the hospital for Xrays since I was in a lot of back pain. My neck was held by the headrest, and I am glad I had my seat belt on.

Only damage to my Son's jeep was a dented trailer light plug support bracket in the hitch.
Towncar had a broken radiator, one headlight, grill and grill support panel screwed up.

Drove my GC to work, then Lowes for a tool box gift for my wife and after phoning her she sent me to answer a craigslist dealer ad for a 98 GC Ltd. w/inline 6 and 2WD (didn't know such a jeep existed) and low and behold I bought that Jeep for her because it was a good deal, she calls it her dream Jeep. It has been in Cali from new till 2006 and she has this thing about trying to lower our carbon footprint even though we live in a cold winter state. But she is sooo happy. AND I won't have to worry about her front diff and another NP 249. I will be replacing rear carrier and pinion bearings.

Picked up new bushings for my transfer case linkage, and then fixed the broken connection between the shift rod and the shifter bracket. Installing that bushing was a pain, very tight spot to work. Took her for a short ride on dirt and shifted several times. Looks like I am good for a while. I did pick up a few extra bushings, in case the problem crops up again.
