Fixed my steering wheel off center issue, and contemplated putting catalytic converter in, to get rid of the new found tail pipe stank

Picked up my (now) shortened and balanced rear drive shaft from the shop. I dropped off a rusty DS, and picked up a pretty painted one.

As of today the 249/242 swap is all done. The rear drive line is in, there's fluid in the tc, the shift linkage seems to be adjusted right...I'm rollin' again!

did you have to swap input shafts? or did you get lucky? is it worth the work? and why did you do it? welded VC?

The vc was causing the front to bind. I didn't have to crack the cases at all. I got the 242 from a 96 zj. Same gear cut, same length input shafts, same 4 pin plug. The 249 had an internal slip yoke, and my 242 has an external slip yoke (with a boot.) It bolted right in.

The only thing I had to get done was having an inch taken off the rear driveline. Mine was too long, and the doner one was too short. The whole thing could have been done in one day, other then waiting on the shop to shorten the dl. It's worth it.
