so i rebuilt the rear drive shaft last week with Moog u-joints. I was under the impression that the two u-joints in the rear were the same. As I finished replacing the one in the slip yoke end, I noticed it did not look right. It was no where near seated fully in the shaft. I compared it to the Spicer one I had taken out and the end caps were about 1/4'' shorter. I didnt think to much of it at the time and re-installed it. For the first day it was smooth as glass. then for the last week i was getting off and on vibrations that would get pretty bad. I knew it was due to that one u-joint. So i drove the wifes WK to work today and decided I would just bite the bullet and buy an OEM one from the dealer. So i just ran by the local dealer. He insisted that the two joints were the same. However, considering I had just replaced them. I insured him they were not the same and described in detail the issue. Unfortunately they did not have one in stock for me to look at (go figure). I left and went to O'reily's. They looked and sure enough came up with a different part numebr for a MAster Pro joint. However, he didnt have any moogs on hand. So, i took a risk and bought the Master pro one. Then I ran to advance auto, explained the situation again and asked to see a Moog 369....sure enough, they are different. The Mater Pro u-joint is about 1/2'' bigger all the way around. Just what I wanted to see. so It looks like Ill be tearing down the shaft again when I get home. I am 100% certain that my rear shaft is OEM so i cant explain the difference...anyone ever come across this? Oh, and the dealer wanted $69 bucks for the spicer u-joint! i dont mind paying for qulaity but seriously? $69 bucks...GTFO!!
