Haha thats funny, I had the same axleshaft break...I got lucky and the splined section in the carrier didn't crack like yours did. We were able to pop it out without too much pressure. And to think it took me on 35's to break

But...I drove about 5 miles on mine haha.

haha I've definately gotten harder on my dub this summer, but the funny part is I actually broke mine with ZERO wheel speed, just got jammed up bad.

TX, i see you sent out your shaft to TW to have him SYE it, what did that cost you? (if you dont mind me asking, im looking to do the same thing)

I recieved the 242HD SYE from TW today. Upon initial inspection, everything looks pretty well made; the shaft is shortened, re-splined and tapped; the tailcone is replaced by a round aluminum piece which bolts on to the "speedo housing", this new tail piece has the new "output" seal which fits snuggly around the flange, which in turn will accept any U-joint sized DS. Assembled things and did a quick runout check and everything seems in order; good machining all around, took about 10 days door to door.

Also got a selec-trac shifter to swap out (thanks Quadra

).

nice! Im jealous.. they told me they couldn't do it.. i would much rather of had that set up.. oh well.. i think i will going to an atlas one of these days anyways.. i want lower gears, and not worth spending half the amount of an atlas to do that on one of these cases.

It's funny you mention that, cause when I called 2 weeks ago, the guy that answered the phone gave me the same response "we don't have an SYE available for the 242HD", so I insisted he let me talk to Tom directly, since I knew he had done it as far back as May this year when Skain8 had posted it here, and then Tom told me he had done a few and could do one for me if I sent him the main shaft and speedo housing.

I, like you, figured by the time I spent the money on a 231 with a 4:1 kit, might as well had gone Atlas; I decided to go 242HD+SYE for now thogh; but an Atlas and 1 Tons is the destiny of all Jeeps, it's just a matter of when.........it's written

So is that SYE only for a 242HD? Or will it work for a regular 242?

Nah, sold it locally and kept the wheels, so that's prolly not it.

TW already has an SYE kit for the 242LD listed on his website, and I think he's had it for a while, so you should be good; the one pictured above is specifically made for the 242HD, it's not yet listed on his website AFAIK, and wouldnt work as the shaft is a bigger diameter on the HD one.

yeah.. i actually called and talked to them a few times. told me no each time.. and i knew they did it.. I know another local guy who just got his installed a week or so ago.. haha..

Hurry up and get those axles in!! LOL
