transfer case damaged ?
i had a huge build this last 6 months , i bought a dana 44 for my rear end of zj . had to weld mounts on and buy axle shafts for it . the dana 44 is from a tj . my installer put the drive shaft in and i think its to long as the dana 44 pinon is an inch longer then a d35 . so its it int jeep and i have drove local for 1 day ,, speed bumps and reverse from drive way to road i hear this huge clunk , like its bottoming out . at frist i thought something was loose but i checked everything , now im sure its the drive shaft smashing into my transfer case . so i have stoped driving it and got another drive shaft at pick-a-part and am getting it shortened , now my question is , have i ruined my transfer case by driving it the little i have maybe 50k ?

How do you know that it is indeed too short? Is it a external or internal slip TC ?

not to short , too long . and there is not enouf room for bumps and the drive shaft to move in and out . i have found a few threads that say xj swaps to 44 need an inch chopped off the driveshaft ,so it seems that if i remove a stock 35 for a 44 , i would still need to chop it . not sure what i have but its an quadratrac awd

Ahhh typo ...my bad. There is damage that can be done...it all depends. It could damage your TC,axle, and driveshaft.

the yoke is pushed all the way into the transfer case then squeezed into the rear , no room for play . like its a tight fit to tighten up

It's really a no brainer. If you removed it and there is no room and the slip yoke bottoms out you need to shorten the DS or try to shorten the shaft which is not easy if you are not experienced. Hopefully no problems will arise. You should be ok if it was only run for a short period of time. I noticed you said 50K and your from Canada so you should be ok if it is not 50 thousand miles ; )

You have probably not damaged the Tcase. But that is speculation. The Shaft is Too long after the swap so cutting it and getting balanced is necassary.
And out of the Tcase options you listed the 242 is the best option. You can use the search function and find tons and tons of information. |
