Ticking in my 2004 cherokee limited

I have an 04 cherokee limited 4.7 with 104k miles. After the engine is warm I start hearing a tick in the top center of the motor. Mechanic says he thinks its the timing chain so I bought a new kit. He also said he heard a knock when it's revved at & beyond 3rpm. Could that b rod knock? I need opinions. If so is it worth replacing bearings or just buying new motor? I have an appt next week with the dealership for diagnostics but I still wanna know what y'all think & ill let u know how it goes. thanks! -kacee
