Thinking about buying a Grand Cherokee

I have found a 2001 Grand cherokee limited with the 318 in it. It has a 2.5 suspension lift with 32's and 145k miles. I currently drive a ford and I am looking for an equally reliable vehicle. I have noticed in reviews that there tends to be a problem with the rotors that can be replaced and fixed easily with aftermarket rotors. Is there anything else I should be worried about before buying this vehicle. Will it be a reliable daily driver?

318? 4.7 or 4.7HO? That's 287...
I dont Think These Jeeps have a rotor (ignition), they have coil on each plug....

I believe the calipers were upgraded in mid production 2001.Either way, warped rotors are easy to change.

Check the blend doors, make sure you can get both hot and cold air out of both sides of the climate controls at the same time...if it has dual zones.

Yes they have That brake rotor problem If it have the Teves front calipers, they Where upgraded and changed at recalls to akebono That seems to not have That problem. I am not 100% sure when the did the change from factory, but you Will find it at wjjeeps.com

I believe it was the 99 and 00 models That came from factory with teves.

My 00 had Akebono already when i got it....

Had mine for 2.5 years, no big issues, only minor things and mainteinence. Bought it at 62k miles, now at 97k miles.

Its reliable.

Check out blend doors, Window regulators, heated Seat (may be covered by recall), mainteinence history, very importent That proper fluids have been used.....

Doing 16mpg heavy foot city driving and up to 22.4mpg highway doing 70mph with mine.

Other than getting 13 mpg, it should work out well. Does it have full or part time 4WD? My friend has the one with a 360 full time and it eats tires and gas...

It has part time 4wd. My friends has a 4.0 wrangler and I love it and it seems to be an all around reliable vehicle. He takes it off roading and it still has 280k on the original engine. Would this be in anyway the same, as it already has 145k miles on it or will I have to start replacing things frequently.

I have changed my radiator, gone through two oil sending units, and re-wired my blower resister, and replaced a window regulator...but other than that it has been just normal maintenance.

With 140k+, you can expect to have parts go here and there. If it was treated well, it will last a long time. If it has been abused and not had proper maintenance, more expensive problems start to present themselves at that mileage.

I love My Quadradrive with LSD diffs when its snow, best traction ever.....
Look for full history mainteinence and Low millage. Also you can have the 4.7 HO Overland edition. Do not Go for the 4.0 its to weak for this heavy weigthed Jeep and have a weaker Trans and mpg is the same....
