At this point you have nothing to lose, try grabbing an oxy acetalyne torch and heating the bottom of the tube where it is bent upwards. With the right technique you can get that tube to pull back down, depending on how far its warped. I say go for it!

You got it. I don't remember where Dave and I came up with it, but it stuck.

I was thinking of doing this, and I've heard if you 'quench' it with a wet towel it will pull it back easier. I might give it a try this week, or I might just wait to do the locker/steering with the housing in that's the Jeep now when I get a DD. As much as I'd like to jump this one, I'm going to try to resist, so hopefully I don't really need the truss.

Took a closer look at the ZJ today, and it was the wheelbearing, not the balljoints. That gave me a good excuse to go pull the driver's side AlloyUSA shaft out of the seXJ and use it with it's decent bearing. Now I can warranty the one off the ZJ and have a spare.

I'm looking at a Ranger for a DD this weekend, so hopefully I can pick up the pace on the ZJ soon. Especially because I just got a killer deal on an NP231 with an SYE I'm picking up next week. I keep adding to the 'To-do' list, but never getting anything done...

True story. It seems like the more time I have, the less money and vice-versa.

I swapped out the draglink tonight because I still had some wobbles after replacing the wheelbearing. Jeep is all set for the run on Sunday, should be a good trip. I'll try to get some pictures this time...

Wheeled yesterday, smashed the ARB off of mother earth at 15MPH + and bent it, broke the clutch engage lever on the M8000, and destroyed the rear DS. All in ~30 seconds. And only 20 minutes into the day, 2 hours from home. That sucked, but I went to a friends house and we whipped up a new rear shaft out of a flange he had laying around and the toob from mine. It vibes pretty bad, but it got me home.

All of this meant the Jeep is down for the count until I pick up the new SYE'd 231 this week, so I figured I'd take advantage of the downtime and get the engine work done. So far I pulled the intake/exhaust, radiator, AC crap and replaced the D/S motor mount. I'll be putting in a new water pump, new 180* thermostat, AC delete bracket, Taurus electric fan, 99+ intake, 63mm TB, Ironman Offroad motor mounts and a new header. I'm hoping all of this will get me a few MPG's and maybe a little more power to boot. Here's a few shots of the progress, more to come as the week goes on.

Something tells me coolant shouldn't be this color...

'New' header. This came off of my old 93 ZJ, but looks to have been replaced with an aftermarket unit at some point. All I care is that it isn't cracked.

New motor mount. I have to say I'm not very happy with these. Andy at Ironman made a limited run of ten of these last fall, and ran into difficulties getting them to line up to all 4.0 ZJ's. Apparently different dies were used at different assembly plants, causing a variation in the bolt locations. It took two test fits, some work with the die grinder, and unbolting the engine side mount to get everything to line up. Hopefully the passenger side goes a little easier...

Got some work done tonight. The new water pump and thermostat are in, header/intake and the head mating surfaces are cleaned and I pulled the condenser. I tried to install the passenger side Ironman mount, but there was no way the holes were going to line up. I called Andy and he was excellent to deal with, very helpful and apologetic for the trouble. He's hoping to have the new mounts done in early May, so I'll just rock the old stock mount for now.

I did get very lucky pulling a broken stud out of the head.

I picked up my new 231 with an SYE tonight, and I need to figure out a rear driveshaft. It looks like it needs to be ~39" at ride height. I'd rather go with a junkyard swap to save some coin than spend a few hundo on a custom one. Anyone have any suggestions?

Adams Driveshaft. By the time you go to the junk yard and find one, replace the u joints, and hope it is balanced you could spend a few more dollars and have one with a warranty.

It's an '87 Suzuki Savage 650, I picked it up off a friend for $500 with brand new tires and brakes. It's not fast, and it sounds like a spaceship, but it should be a good starter bike. And hopefully it will get better mileage than the ZJ...

Made some progress this weekend.

Intake/exhaust manifolds are installed, fuel rail and new injectors are in, new 63mm TB is installed and the new PS pump bracket is on.

I had to space the back of the pump out with a washer so the threads would line up in the pump and intake.

Then I started to mock up the Taurus fan and figure out how it's going to mount. This is the best way to stuff it in there without any interference with the water pump pulley. It's 'upside down' and pushed closer to the passengers side, but I'm sure it will still be efficient enough.

Dave(squashman) swapped out the transfer case for me on Saturday, so now I'm just waiting for the new shaft from Carolina Driveline. $150 for a CV shaft with a 1330 yoke at the axle end shipped to my door, not too bad.

I just ordered an adjustable fan control kit with a thread in sensor from Summit, which should be here Wednesday. I'm sure I would have been fine with a non-adjustable set-up and the 180* thermostat, but why not have more **** to play around with? I'm hoping the new shaft will be here Thursday and I'll be driving it Friday, but no promises.
