TheSiltSurfer's Used WJ Build/Thread

Going to be purchasing this gem 1999 Limited WJ 4x4 V8 113,000 miles on her. Would like to know what to look for during the test drive things as far as mechanical issues ect.
A buddy of mine told me to 1)make sure the blower motor works, 2) AC & Heat blow out of passenger and driver sides as well as back. I've got photos so far haven't driven it yet just would like feedback on what to expect and look for. Thanks guys

1 Check all windows with all window switches (not just the master control)
2 let engine idle listen for ticking/ knocking right at start up (cool engine) and after driving it
3 Throw it in four wheel drive, make sure there is no grinding
4 Check for rust underneath
5 Look for leaks

Good call on windows and I believe its always in 4 hi will definitely throw her in 4 low though. Also, Can't avoid the rust we're in Colorado after all. Now about the ticks, I notice slight ticks on my hemi when its cooling off but no knocking are ticks more normal? knocking definitely sounds like a immediate issue. Thanks again

Get in the car and rev it up as slowly as possible, if the tick goes away while revving it, good.
If the tick stays through the acceleration: no buenos!!

Hopefully somebody with a V8 will chime in. I know the 4.0 has a slight tick to when nothuign is wrong. Mine has gotten worse in the past 15000 miles

-That's good that the air is coming out of both sides; that means the blend doors haven't failed. But you asked what to expect, so expect them to fail someday. They all do.

-Do a tight figure-eight in a parking lot; listen for unusual noises from the TC or differentials

-Clean your battery terminals as soon as you take delivery, then tighten the crap out of them.

-Does it come with any maintenance records? The WJs don't take well to neglect, especially the V8s.

-99% of the information available for these Jeeps has been compiled on www.WJJeeps.com. It'd be a good idea to look through there and familiarize yourself with it.

Picked her up today! Everything is clean and perfect! little to no rust pretty immaculate for a 99' . Just one blow tweeter and rear window hatch shocks are blown everything else is working properly & is clean. The Build Begins now!!!

I have an extra rear window shock if you want it. It'll save you like 15-20$
It'll save you like 45 if you go to the stealership

1st Mods!! Waiting on my black lugs to come in will post final pics later. Not bad for a beautiful days work & I know there should be some flack for the Brembo decal! It's my FiancÚs ride just trying to pimp it out! Haters gonna hate when playas be playing jk

With the black lugs and center cap painted, also ordered a cheapo air intake on eBay, works well enough for $50 better sound and tad more kick in power. going to mod stock air Box to help with the "heat soak" since it is a open filter. Lights next!

Mirror covers came in going to have them painted white to match. Headlights in also! Huge box for lights hopefully wire them up tonight

Just curious as to where you're going with this build... Exhaust? Headers, tune, etc.? Or are you lifting it...

Definitely got a list going already, but not complete:
Lift 3-4" long arms hopefully & 2.5" reservoir shocks
Dual exhaust like shown but not true dual (aware it won't fit out back)
Fiberglass Hanneman Fenders (grew up in desert prefer that look)
..but for now just going to replace all the factory ball joints & TRE first. Then swap out every component on the front, trac, sway, links drag link ect. (I'm OCD when it comes to steering and will not tolerate DW on my FiancÚs vehicle) she has to feel safe in it foremost, feeling like a BAMF is just the kicker
I'll keep all updates here thanks for asking

Wired these up like a champ got the halo projector fog lights as well but the wiring process is a bit more involved identical to wiring some Hellas I believe will post more pics later hopefully at least get them mounted today
