IIRC, 10achik (The mod) was seeing about ten or 11 mpg's while running 33's. Once he got his new regeared axles in, he got 16.

im not stressing about the 11 MPG i was just saying its hard as a college student and have heard of people doin a diesel switch and having good results with better MPG i was just asking to see if it was worth it or not?

SHoey- do you know what gear ratio that guy went up to and got 16 MPH???
Im planning on doin 4.56

You say I'm just a college student and gas is to expensive but I just don't see how you think a diesel swap would be cheap?

well i know i would drop a good 5 grand maybe on the sway plus about 1 grand for regearing thats 6 grand total.
with the engine swap i would be getting like 25 average plus if i regear lets say about 30-40 MGP thats freaking awesome for a lifted rig on 35! so its 6 grand total thats enough to buy me a bike thats why im not sure if its worth doin or just get a bike?!?
rason why i would want to do this is because i love driving my jeep! its awesome!
reason why i would want a bike- because i really like bikes!

over all i love my jeep more than bike so thats why i considered asking this!

Again, a diesel engine does not defy physics. You will not get 30-40 mpg. A diesel VW Golf barely gets just over 40 mpg with a little rinky-dink 4 cylinder (somewhere between 1.6-2.0 liter) and stock wheels. You want a Jeep (which weighs probably in the neighborhood of 50% more), that's lifted and on 33s to get the same? Keep dreaming.

You'd probably see 25 mpg tops, if you keep off the gas (err diesel...).

Just regear and pick up a few bolt-ons (intake, exhaust) and keep it tuned up. That's the best, easiest, and cheapest way to up your gas mileage.

Do this: take the money (I'd estimate a diesel engine running $4,000 and labor to install and any other modifications to run another $2,000) and put it into a bank account for only buying gas and see how far it goes.

Uh, lemme get back to you, he's got a build thread here somewhere. My advice dude, drop the $1,200ish on a regear and be done, or get a beater.

Edit-try this thread.

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f13/iro-ultimate-d44-axles-installed-542931/

Edit again...Ok, not a great reference. He does say that he's close to stock with 33's and 4.11's. So maybe a regear to 4.56?
