That's a sweet ZJ, a lot of people don't realize what a diesel with a turbo charger will do. I want one.

Not to mention, most real diesels are I6s, not V8s anyway.

Real diesels ? How many of these I6 diesels have you owned ? In the big pickup truck world, the ford's have been v8's since the 80's, atleast, gm also, dodge runs the only I6 in american fullsize trucks.

But in the big big truck world, Detroit or Cummins with 6 holes reign supreme.

I was talking about things like the DT466, Cummins C 8.3, etc. There are good V8 diesels out there, don't get me wrong. However, most wet-sleeved, heavy duty, high output diesels (particularly large displacement ones) are I6s.

Pickup truck diesels tend to be the next step below those, such as a Cummins B, International T444E / VT365, etc.

my dad got 37 mpg the other day on a 3 hour drive.. He has the little CRD motor in his KJ and its nearly as fast as my 4.7.. it would be a sweet motor in a WJ and definitely would fit under the hood.. hooking it up would be the tough part. there is a guy on the forums here who is putting a crd motor in his MJ.. sick build.. i'll look for a link

found it

37 MPG? What are the factory MPG numbers on those? Not to call you a liar, but that seems a little high.

Well I look at the numbers. Seems like most people avg 27ish. Which is what my dads jeep says right now on the evic he installed. He really got 37 avg tho. It is quite an elevation change from spanish for, UT to las vegas so he had some good down hill sections. But there are some narly up hill mountain passes on the way. But the factory numbers are like 24-27.

What about the diesel WG?

You know that this project will take months upon months, thousands upon thousands of dollars, you will never be able to keep your CEL off, and you wont see your investment back for at least 15 years?

Your math is very incorrect. Fuel efficiency doen not equal engine efficiency. You essentially have a lead brick on stilts. 35's and the factory 3.73's don't help either.

You shouldn't be investing in a motor swap, invest in gears.
Exactly. He's totally got the wrong approach.

GEARS!

I get 15/19 mpg's with my setup & 4.56 gears. Thats better than stock!

The money you'll pay to shoe-horn something in and wiring it all up will be WAY more than filling it up at 11 mpg.

If you're stressing about gas mileage, you shouldn't have lifted it. Did you not see this coming before you put the lift and everything on?

Like someone else said, you won't see the 30 mpg you're hoping for. Suck it up, keep the gas, and think about the lift kit everytime you're at the pump.

FYI: QuadraTokn, the link in your signature doesn't work. I got excited, I need some WJ headlights for cheap.
