switching the H.O out!!!
im thinking about switching my H.O for a diesel engine!
where can i find a good engine that will fit i saw a couple of diesel blocks and man those things are huge and dont think they will fit my rig? I wanna know if anyone has done the switch? reason why i wanna do the switch is for better MPG, my dad has a King ranch F-350 and he is getting 2? miles a gallon and he beats the crap out of his truck. so im getting 11 miles a gallon and figure if i do the swap and get a chip for that engine, drive the way i originally do, i figure i can be getting about 30MPG because my jeep is alot lighter than any big diesel truck! anyone wanna tell me why i shouldnt do this and talk me out of it??!

A v8 diesel out of a fullsize ford wouldn't fit, chassis couldn't support the weight either. It would have to be a 6 or 4 cyl.

Why not put that money into a car if you want good gas mileage. It just isn't a good investment in my opinion. Will take to much $ and to much work.

check out what diesel they run in the euro spec wj with the stock diesel. Go with the diesel and then you have the option of a snorkle as ive heard of them being manufactured for the diesel wj.

You do a 6.5" lift and 35's and now you're worried about MPG's.
![]() Your math is very incorrect. Fuel efficiency doen not equal engine efficiency. You essentially have a lead brick on stilts. 35's and the factory 3.73's don't help either. You shouldn't be investing in a motor swap, invest in gears. |

I agree with Gatorayde on the gears. And another thing, to fit a big, solid diesel and tranny, you'd need much better axles and a lot of frame beefing up. And you might need to stretch the front end to make it fit (LWB WJ anyone?)

yeah man get a civic like Roger! you need some new gears, like 4.56
u cant fit a big *** diesel in, and the 6 or 4 cyl wont have enough juice to get ya moving.

that is bull.... a mildly modified 4cyl or 6cyl will power a lifted grand quite well.. i dont know where i saw it, but i know that the 4cyl out of bread trucks has something special about it, its worth lookin into...

well ya i know i have to regear thats my next thing!
but after i want to do the swap... i know big tires and a 6.5" lift are gonna kill my MPG but i know that swapping the engine to diesel will be much better in MPG too! i dont know if it will be worth doing all this tho. If i have to stretch the WJ i dont do it! I was trying to avoid getting a bike because my parents dont want me getting one and they have told me to sell my rig and get a truck or something else because im in college and its pretty expensive and gas inst helping much... i dont wanna sell my jeep tho i love it!!! i dont like civics tho they are annoying and would much rather get a bike (yes i know bikes are ricers too) if im gonna get something new!

Just get a beater commuter car man...You're going to spend way more on a deisel swap anyway. If you want something that looks decent, try 94-98 Mustangs, they can be had for pretty cheap and get decent gas mileage. But I used to have a '95 so I'm kind of biased.

You are crazy to think the money spent on an engine swap will save you money from better mpgs.
The custom fabrication, electrical work, and other things you cant even think of are going to be a whole lot more than you expect. Not to mention the labor costs, from your previous posts you have shown you do not have the mechanical knowledge to pull this off yourself.
