Looks like Today
I bought this 03-WJ July 13th "Yesterday' after being stuck with with a 96 Ford Explorer for 3 years of my life. This is what it looked like DAY 1.
Day two My brother and i Masked the all the plastic and WERE going to paint all the plastic FLAT BLACK. When we went to the the Hardware store they ran out of all the flat black, so we went to Fred Meyer and got 2 more cans. The catch was it wasn't flat black it was SATIN Black. So we ended up painting the Grill Satin and the cladding flat black. and here is how it ended up.

Thanks man, if you read my profile its nice to finally get my Jeep and do my own thing. But yeah i totally feel you on the Lift, gonna get a 2'' BB and Debating on 31'' Toyo Open country M/T or BF goodrich M/T.... Should post some photos of your WJ
Thanks, I had to quickly change this Jeep with some paint. It looked like a grandma SUV this morning. But i have big plans for this Jeep. Keep watching and glad for hearing tips and comments.
I am noticing alot of people are from Oregon on this site. I think the next thing to paint is the Stock wheels they don't look all that bad for being stock.
Loving that color. I think the difference between the flat black of the cladding and the satin black of the grille looks great! The gunmetal would look awesome with the maroon and black IMO.
Yes of course...Thanks for the compliment....I have always been a big fan of Bullbars and PIAA so those are definitely in the future...But first things are first. With the lifts and tires i am debating on BF GOOD RICH M/T or TOYO OPEN COUNTRY M/T's. Also i want more horse power since this is a I6. so ill have to add some stuff under the hood as well....but open for any tips or advice thanks
yep ha its all i think about. The girl i am seeing, i spent my whole weekend painting the wheels and meshing the grill and touching up on stuff and spending time at the junk yard and i went to pick her up and she says "you spent your entire weekend doing this.... it looks the same." lol its nice to know there are people out there that can notice. Next is a K&N air filter :]
also i need some opinions... After the suspension lift and tires i am gonna get into FOGS i really want PIAA "i know they are expensive' but my brother keeps saying HELLA BLACK MAGIC....i know they are both a really good light but just looking for some experienced INFO. THANKS
yeah thanks alot its really simple just prep it well and i used Satin on the grill and flat black on the cladding oh and i removed the bottom strip as well. thanks for the respond. I really am curious to see how it will look lifted i was being a poser and lifting it up on jack stands to get an idea lol looks like a different kind of beast :]
I really like your Jeep. The Dubs can come out rather awesome. I've been wondering something. It's a simple thing. The Maglight mounting brackets, where the heck do you get those? I bought a Maglight set a few years back and didn't get any of those with it. I'd love to not just have the darn flashlight flopping around or rolling about as it currently is. I like to secure things if I can. I suppose your set just had them included? Now I have to go buy another Maglight just to have the mount. LOL It looks nice though. A simple yet impressive touch. It's the little things, ya know?
thanks buddy. I got mine on EBAY but i have seen them at Ace Hardware, The Home Depot, and Fred Meyers so they are around :] but yeah i bought the flash light and mount, paint, cross bars, and straps for spare for a totall of like 150.00 so yeah its nice to do stuff thats cheap. but thats all gonna end soon lol with suspension, tires, lights, and engine items. lol i guess i could do tow hooks for cheap as well.
anyone know what LED design i need to purchase for my guages???? i already bought some and replaced them but they are so dim i cant even see at night so... any advice would help. i already know the size.
lol i wanna have fun with my jeep but ill keep it maintained for when it gets dirty not leave it a muddy wreck. my brother goes hella mudding and his jeep is always a shiny penny inside and out. :]
yeah i think thats a good quality to have. But we will see if i walk the walk lol. cause it took my brother 3 times at the spray car wash to get all the mudd off so it doesnt look all that easy.
P.S. is your friend your talking about DCVance/ David Vance?
Yep i kept the tires on, just because if the paint did not work then i wouldnt have wasted extra time for nothing.
But i used Rust Oleum Flat black for metals. I prepped them really well by wet sanding and making sure they were really clean.
As far as them holding up, so far so good. I let them sit for 24 hours before driving. i took them threw the wash and no chipping or pealing i did hit it with a couple light clear coats the next day just to give them some protection cause the paint is a bit gritty so that smoothed it pretty well. so overall i just really took my time and was patient with it and didn't rush anything. ill keep you informed if they start to randomly wear on me :cheers2:
yeah you can do that as well :] but i am sure just the oil from the tire/road will do fine. i saw you asked my friend DCVance87 the same question. I got my idea from him and he has had his wheels painted for a long time now and they are holding nicely
and i did ALOT of coats of black and make sure when you paint the tire lift it up and roll it in the sun so you can see if any glare is shown, so you dont miss any spots.
yeah would it have to be on a weekend or during the week?
