The stupid mistakes thread

Post up your stupid mistakes.

I'll start:

Realize that you used a sway bar link bolt for the track bar bolt. No wonder why I had such bad bumpsteer/DW

bought the whole transmission cooler line just to get the rubber hose w/fittings at the end to fix a leaking hose. Could have done more research and found that hose instead of paying $120 for the line. Lol.......

Used a Standard On a Metric Stripped it And had to end up resorting to Pipe wrench and BFH (gd 02 sensors) :

My stupid mistake goes back 25 years to my teens, before I started working in dealerships.
I rebuilt a 2.8 V6 for my Mustang, and didn't guage the crank. It had been previuosly ground. I put stock bearings on it. Knocked like hell. Had to pull the motor and re-rebuild it.
Since then, I don't do anything without triple and quadruple checking it....

Bought a $500+ Borla catback for the Jeep only to realize a week later Kolak could have hooked me up with a 10x better exhaust system for 1/2 the price.

Tried to change the rear output seal on my tranny on my ZJ in an unheated garage . . . . in December . . . in Syracuse . . . . with no clue what I was doing.

You thought wrong.
Cheating on your wife is not a joke, and if you think it is, ask her if she thinks it's funny.

First mistake was pouring two quarts of expensive fully synthetic oil into the engine while the drain plug was still off. That was a good learning experience.

Second, right after i got my hi-lift, I thought "i bet i can jack the jeep up from the rocker panel." and i didn't (and still don't) have rocker protection. Well all i did was bent about a 1.5" strip of pinch seem up, I didn't jack far enough to do any real damage.
