Strange Noise under Braking

I have a 2004 Grand Cherokee V8.
When I brake from about 30mph there's a funny whirring noise that seems
to come from around the center console. A friend of mine likened it
to a bad computer hard drive noise.
Last Summer I put new Pads and Rotors on the front but it must have been OK for a couple of thousand miles before this noise appeared.
I took all the Brakes apart a few weeks ago and greased all the areas where the pads could have been hanging up and it seemed to be OK for a while but now it's back.Theres' no vibrations in the pedal and it doesn't pull and I can't hear anything bad with the windows open so it's a mystery.

Please help...my wife thinks I broke the brakes
