time vs money ??? if you can be down for a week or so, take them to a machine shop that does car work, heads etc. have them magna flux it, and hot tank them. that will tell ya right up front if the heads are bad. if they are good, get a valve job. if you can't wait, get a set of reman, or used heads. on the used ones, i'd still get them checked for cracks. you way a head of the game by doing that and getting new seals. depends on milage, you might wanta do timing chains as well, that bit me in the aZZ and took the 2 extra months... being 1 tooth off !!!!!!

cleaned up heads

alot comes off..

why are you worrying about heads, you do not even know the issue. Do the tests I suggested or pay someone to and you will know almost with 100% certainty where the issue is. Do all of the tests correctly if you want accurate info, do each compression test 3 times and average the numbers, add oil to low ones to see if they improve, do the leak down test.

Yea, I get that. It's just VERY hard for me to believe that the rings would be bad. The compression test numbers between each cylinder are inconsistent. They are random. I'm gunna try and test it soon.

I don't see why they wouldn't....still a 4.7 block. Seems it would be an upgrade with the HO cams and what-not.

Yea my thoughts too.. Same price too. Why not. If my heads/valves are bad I will prolly buy them new.

ya know, I have been thinking about it for some time...what parts could you take from an HO, a newer 4.7, etc...and mix/match...plug/play. I have absolutely no reason to get rid of the dub, and if the engine ever goes, I will replace it. But I thought that if I knew what parts I need to build a "stroker" 4.7 then I could at least keep an eye out in the mean time for those parts and get them when they are on sale, or on CL...Kolak told me something a little while back about "speed freaks", or "the speed freaks" and those guys do a lot of 4.7 engine mods..but I haven't really been able to find much...and I haven't looked too hard though either.

Anyway, I would love to have that info and do something with it. I feel the same about my Accord too, don't like any of the newer models, and wouldn't get rid of mine for any reason...with honda engines though, there are alot of mixing parts with Acura parts that work accross both lines...
