You drive a tj, we drive a zj. We have more power while you get more shower. We get the v8 while you get there too late. You have 2 doors well, we have 2 more. Ours costs a grand while yours has a price we cant stand.

Can I put 4.88's in my dana 44A? I'm thinking of getting a new Dana30 from the JY and putting it on jack stands in my garage so I can attempt to rear gear it with 4.88's and new upgraded brakes and all new ballpoints.

So what I'm wondering is what gears to get? 4.56 or 4.88's?

Will 4.88's work in the 44A?

AFAIK, the deepest gears available for the 44a are 4.56.

Okay that's fine. 4.56 should be plenty.

Do the Vari lock axles have the limited slips? I can't remember?

The only reason I ask is because the guy at the JY says the Vari lock axle is $350 and the Quadradrive axle is $550. But I don't think it matters cause I'm going to gut it and stick my Aussie locker in there with new 4.56 gears. As long as that carrier is fine would that work?

A Vari-Lock 44a is all you can do with it. Need an open 44a to put a locker in. What did I miss, don't you have a 44a already??

The Vari-lock axle is the Quadra drive axle as far as I know. Vari-lock is how QD works.

Yes, it snows in Texas.

That's what I thought too. It's been a long time since I looked into this stuff.

It makes me wonder if the JY guy you're talking to knows what he's talking about. You don't want to pay for one thing and get another. If he's calling them both the same thing, but charging more for a QD axle, I'm betting he's not well versed on Jeeps and just thinks a non-QD Jeep has Vari-lock axles, and that they're somehow different than QD axles. You just want to be sure before you dish out the money on something.
