I purchased my kit from rpm machine. It was essentially a 4.0 rebuild kit with a few exceptions. Forged and 0 balanced 12 weight 4.2l crankshaft, 4.2l forged rods, and high compression pistons along with some moly rings. Everything else is identical to a 4.0

Nope. I left the standard bore. I would've gone .020 over had I known it was as easy as telling the shop to do it when I purchased the kit a month before the block went in for machining.

Ah ok thanks for all of the info. So just that kit got you tons of power over stock?

How hard was install and build?

It is no harder than rebuilding an engine any other way. All it requires is that you space the girdle so the longer throw crank doesn't hit it. Then you must shave it to clear the oil pan.

I did other things to increase the power. Bigger throttle body, bored out intake manifold, ported and polished head. The more volume pushed through the cylinders needs somewhere to go.

I figured it still was an entire rebuild. Which is for the time being out of my league. I would need a shop to do it or see if my mechanic would be able to do it. haha

Have you blown your trans yet?

Engine was rebuilt at 147k trans went at 158k

Oh FYI. I spent about $1800 in parts alone

The hot tank, magnaflux, port job, freeze plugs, block sleeve, and cylinder hone cost $425

I didn't have the money at the time so I bought a used trans out of a recently wrecked jeep. It's holding up so far. But I'm saving up for a nv3550 swap when it does go. The 42re can barely handle a 4.0 much less a 4.5

haha a manual swap would be so much fun haha. would the six speed manual from the rubicons fit in the WJ's? thatd be cool too!

I wish the 545re would fit up to the 4.0 or the future 4.5+ liter engine!

I hope I'm not wrong but I believe that any 4.0 wrangler trans will adapt to fit a WJ. The 6 spd would be pretty awesome but its $4k new!!! I can find a used nv3550 and rebuild it for a quarter of that

Yea that would be good. I do not see why that 6 speed from the Rubicon wouldn't fit. haha. Had no idea that it was that expensive either!? Why is it so much more?!?!
