Thank you too Richard for that offer! I'm not sure when I will get out there either! But, looks like you have some really great terrain out there too.

I say "Ski" to generalize skiing and snowboarding, just a thing. But I've been snowboarding since I've been a kid. That is where my username came from way back when "Snow-Boarder-Kid-07" --> Snobrdrkid07

Been thinking of one of these for the engine compartment. fuse block

For the CB, Light Bar, Rock Lights, and whatever else. I took care of the big three wires going to the amps and such. Now the small wires coming off the battery. haha

Get a nice one. Most of the fuse blocks out there are cheap BS. I have used ones like this on a lot of wiring projects. It's nice because you have the clean option of using spare connectors as opposed to "just stick a wire in there and clamp it down"

I know, just pull'n your leg
Good idea with a distribution/fuse block, the right way to do it, is it water proof? it would be Nice, thinking about water/humidity engine compartment Wash and such.

I like that one, has a spot for a ground too. How will that hold up under the hood? If it had a plastic cover or something. Hmmm.

More similar to this here which is marine grade and blah blah. But I do not think it was worth 65 dollars.

Looks like it has a plastic cover to Go ontop of the fuses,,,? You will be Good, mount it high and be careful with pressure Wash directly at it.

Thats the thing about electricity, its always about what envoirment you put it into and/or what components Are exposed to? Cold/heat/water???
Keep That in mind, and you will always be Good

Turns out most 12v wiring is already "Waterproof". Drop your battery in a bathtub and it won't short out. The terminals are all zinc-plated and it doesn't really matter if they get wet. I have used blocks like that underhood and in the cowl before with no issues for years upon years.

Will it last as long as an OEM fuse block? No way, but for $20 it gets the job done.

^^^Thats about correct, more thinking of corosion of metal not intended to use in outside envoirment and not capsuled in, water seems to Go inside ex wireing, and rotten out the copper from the one end it comes in, seen this happen in old cars and boats, copper becomes Black and green, therefor heat shrink over cable shoe to prevent water to Go inside cable is a Nice thing, things can never be to water tight when it comes to electricity, just my nerdy opinion as an electrician.

Disclaimer, I do work at a marine goods store but I am completely sold on most anything I've seen made by Blue Seas Systems.

I have one of those on my Mako 19 and the thing is heavy duty. Its a bit pricey but you'd be hardpressed to find a nicer fuse block.

I hear ya, I do. My stepdad was a union inside lineman for 30 years and taught me all sorts of things. And of course, growing with with boats I learned all about marine-grade 12v systems where that sort of thing is required.

In practice though, we don't build automotive wiring harnesses to last 50+ years like you would expect in a home or commerical building. Short of the basics like heat shrink on solder joints and wrapping harnesses against abrasion, I don't see the need to invest tons of time and money into simple wiring harnesses for automotive accessories.

My wallet agrees that the 20 dollar box with get the job done. While Blue Seas is some sweet sh**, tis a bit overkill. Good find on that one Richard, thank you.

As for all my wiring, some of it done previously (by me and others) is no longer up to par with my current higher (safer) standards. Okay so maybe it was not that bad but it was messy. Some of it was a little sketchy but I am taking care of it. Which is why I just redid all the amps and cleaned it up really well. Next is the few small things hanging off the battery. Goal is to have the two main Jeep wires, Amp wire, and a fuse box wire off the battery.

For my wiring most everything is done with crimp connectors and heat shrink wrap. I soldered the LED lights and doubled shrink wrapped them and its been over a year and hey they're still working haha.

Lastly, now that I bought this awesome large gauge crimp tool, I would like to tackle the the "Big 3" upgrade soon.

EDIT: While I was under the dash the previous weekend, I came across a light blue wire with a sticker attached saying, "electric brake" or "trailer brake". I guess my Jeep is pre-wired for a gain meter?

That would be a wire to hook up a time delayed brake controller.
