Don't know about that but it should drive a world better with more caster and a functional a-arm!

Oh my gosh! Got the Jeep back! Full, very detailed report coming later tonight.

Caster is at 8.0 degrees right now, running the front drive shaft. Steering wants to return to center now! Feels so solid. Actually very minimal vibes, for me to say that its probably in "spec" haha. But, might back it off some. But more later!

Well everything seems to be good with the Jeep. I want to do a few little tweaking to things and such.

Here is a breakdown of everything that was done and performed on the Jeep.
  • Power Steering Flush
  • Mechanical Fan Clutch Replacement - Mopar
  • Rear Upper Control Arm - Mopar
  • Parking Brake Shoes
  • Spark Plugs - NGK 3459
  • Ignition Coil Boots - STW SPP45
  • Brake Fluid
  • BG Cooling System Service Kit - BG5901
  • Antifreeze - Supposedly the Zerex G05
  • Transmission Crossmember Support - 52058904AD
  • New Water Pump - APU PWP9200
  • Thermostat - STA 13009
  • Rear Upper Ball Joint - MOO K7450
  • Radiator Cooling Fan, Complete Assmebly - 1720107TY
  • Lower Control Arm Install
  • Check Front output Yoke Bearing - okay
  • Check Track Bar - tightened for time being
  • Power Steering Flush, Road test, inspect system leaks, flush lines, pump, gear box. New Fluid, additive for seals. Road test
  • R&R Fan Clutch
  • R&R Rear Upper Control Arm
  • R&R Parking Break Shoes
  • R&R Spark Plugs with Coil Boots
  • Brake Fluid Flush - Check brake fluid for moisture and contamination. Inspect all hydraulic lines and hoses. Inspect calipers and wheel cylinders. Inspect master cylinder and cap. Flush entire brake system inclusing master cylinder, calipers, wheel cylinders until Clean
  • Radiator Flush
  • R&R Crossmember
  • Alignment
  • R&R Water Pump
  • R&R Thermostat
  • R&R U-Joints, double cardon rebuild

I am not really sure what the R&R is. They did not replace the front upper control arm bushings. But they took them out and looked at them and said they were't "bad". Ride is much more stable, the caster made the steering like woah stable! The a-arm clunking is gone, yay! The old a arm was so bad the bushings were about to fall out and ball joint was toasted.

Hmm, well Edmunds puts my Jeep at Private party around $9000 with all the correct features/options. However, the Jeep is only worth what someone else would pay. Jeep is here to stay though! But, I definitely did not pay over $7000 in repairs based on that! Maybe a tad under 30% of the private party value.

Nope! The total came out to be 2900. It was supposed to be 2550 initially but they found that the water pump was leaking, so they took care of that too which bumped the price some. Then a few other minor things were added in that bumped it up to the final number of 2900. Breakdown was 1100 labor and 1800 in parts.

The mods you could do to the 4.0 for $2900 XD. Okay maybe real quick :P ported heads, mild cam, headers, insta-60hp :P you would be toolin' on 4.7s all day

Oh my gosh! Maybe I'll spend another 3000 this summer and do that! Better yet my birthday in march!

Overall I'm very happy with how the Jeep is riding. So much more stable and solid feeling. I've hit probably 20 man hole covers and only 1 made the steering wheel jiggle for a split second. Nothing like what it usually did before hand. I've also got to realize that some things in the road are going to make the steering wheel move! Lol.

I *might* need to back off the caster some to help the pinion angle. I'm getting some drive line vibes, noting crazy. But, to help the pinion, which to me looks like its sitting parallel to the ground at the moment. So there is a bit of an angle on that single u-joint. For example at 45 mph it will go wherrr, wherr, wherrrrr. On and off, like in phase out of phase. Could that be because of the angle on that single u-joint???

Yeah. 8° of caster is too much. That's to the point I'd also be concerned with tire wear as the camber curve is getting affected.

Yeah I thought it was... excessive haha. They guys at the shop told me to shoot for 7 to 9 degrees because lifted, etc etc.

BTW, the alt-key for the degree sign (°) is Alt-0176.

Definitely too much caster. Getting these as close as possible side-to-side will help with the occasional steering wheel shimmy.

Hah, I bet that's been bothering you. Thanks for the tip!

What would a good number be? 6.5? Also, can I take a control arm and turn it another thread to try and bring the two caster numbers closer together?
