So all assembled and stuff is it leaking at all? I did hear from others that fluid would be lost in the process but did the seal fail/crack?

Something may not be right with the yoke. The yoke is from a 242 and go figure its different. The flange had shaved splines at the end. While the u joint yoke didnt have that. Could be a possibility. Also, when I've been poking around threads, people have been replacing seals at the same time...

So legit!
Very cool Larry!

Alright guys, update on the front yoke situation. I am 95% sure that mine is not fitting properally because it does not have the shaved/machined splines at the end like the one I pulled off. I just need someone to confirm this. I am probably going to need a new seal. Is that called the "Front Output Shaft Seal"? And also might need a another yoke. Although from a 247 or 242 WJ

Haha, way to go there man! Any pictures?

UPDATE on the Yoke issue of compatabilty. I went over to my resident Jeep expert and we pulled the yoke back out and compared the two of them. The difference, sure enough was those machined splines. The WJ 242 front output shaft has a shorter amount of splines. So, to fit properlly, they had to shave out those splines at the end of the yokes for it to slip all the way onto the shaft. So, that means my ZJ yoke will NOT work and I need to find a WJ 242 yoke or just pony up and order a new one. The ZJ shaft itself should still work fine. Going to be checking car-part.com here soon. Might bite the bullet and just order one from Kolak.

Going to attempt to get to the JY in the next week to find the right WJ 242/247 yoke to take care of front d.s. It is still leaking some with the original flange back in there. Guess the seal is torn up. I have a new one on the way. 8 bucks from rockauto and will replace it when I get the new yoke.

The major things that I am still working on fixing:
1. Driving like a boat and floating on the highway, speed of 55+ is when it gets kinda crappy. - Solution new a-arm

2. Slight shimmy in the steering wheel still, that is speed dependent from around 50-60 mph. Ever so slight back and forth movement in the steering wheel. - Solution, new tires. I am still confident that driving for 1000 miles on a toe'd in alignment tore them up to the point that they won't be the same. Lost which front two were bad in the shuffle with terrible customer service at Merchants. Might have to just deal with it. Even a stock Jeep with bad tires can get a little shimmy in the wheel that is speed dependent right?

3. Lastly, those slightly more aggressive shimmy's in the wheel when I hit a bump and then go away. - Solution, new control arms up front to add a little more caster. Then to also replace the bushings in the upper axle mounts.

New seal came for the front output on the t-case. Just need the damn yoke now.

#5,315 ·
No junk yards minus the one I went to previously are going to let me pull a yoke of a t-case they are trying to sell. Then the yard I was at didn't have any WJ's.

Looks like I'm gonna just have to order it.

Did make some progress, the seal came in, got a 10mm allen wrench to fill the case up meanwhile. Also picked up a 18mm deep well, 1/2 drive socket for the TB bolt.

Weekend progress. Filled t-case while waiting for new yoke to come. Wasn't that low so that was a good sign.

Went to tighten track bar and check it. Was already very tight. So that was good.

Scored a heck of deal on eBay for a leather center console lid. I hear they are really fancy and comfy. Excited.

Just make sure you know what you're getting into ;) its nothing bad and the ends justify the means. You'll probably notice a lot of worn out parts make their presence known. I would advise a comprehensive lift kit, skip the BBs. Any particular one in mind?

It's going to be an adventure for sure. Going to have its ups and downs. But, in the end you are going to have one mean looking WJ that stands out of the crowd and make it a head turner. I loved my WJ but there are just soooo many of them out there, no one stops to notice anymore. Lifted, people will see it and you can be (more) proud of what you drive!

Try having my dub on 35s ...now that's a head turner ...I've had people notice my jeep before all my friends lifted trucks (most of them run 37s) and I still get people pointing to my jeep saying things like look a monster truck or that jeep is huge ...I can't go a day with out someone asking me a question about my jeep or catching people take a picture of it

I dont doubt that at all! Its just something you dont see, a tall lifted WJ. Maybe one day i can get there! The WJ is the last grand cherokee you can actually put a big lift on. I guess you can on WK but not as much.

Get a used one from Davey's Jeeps. Very cheap. Google it. If you can't easily find it on his website, just call.

#5,327 ·
I already ordered the parts from Kolak. Paid a bit of premium but, they are brand new Mopar parts, so I can not complain that much. They should be here this week or next. Plenty of time for winter and the snow.

Huh? I'm a month in on mine and its doing great. What kind of grease did you use? Oh and what did you torque the hex screws to when you assembled them? Regardless their stuff is under a lifetime warranty so you should give them a call.
