What I want to know is why they stopped using the Aisin Warner transmission.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMC_and...s#Aisin-Warner

That thing is a lot stouter than the 42RE, no? I'm sure we could swap, but what would the issues be with CELs? I think some people have done it before. I'd likely do that if I ended up needing a tranny swap.

Yes, it snows in Texas.

So the AW4 mirrors the 42re pretty closely and is supposedly a better trans AND fits with the 4.0. But I wonder what codes etc it would through with the WJ

I know that it'll fit and has been done before in ZJ's. I don't know about it working in a WJ. The issues arise from the 42RE being electronically controlled and so forth. The AW4 is mechanical.

545RFE Rearwhell Full Electronic
Same as 45RFE just another program in the TCM transmision control modul That adds the 5th gear.

45RFE was delivered from factory in 99 and 00 models, sometime in 01 they started with the 545RFE, but all 99 and 00 models can easily be flashed by dealership so it becomes a 545RFE.

I was looking at the 545re and was wondering if the could flash it to be a six speed... So it would utilize both 2nd gears.

In fact the 45 have 5 gears, the 545 have 6 gears, both have 2 2th gears one for down shift and one for up shift. The difference is the 5th (6th) overdrive gear.

Btw its RFE not RE as in the 42re.

Right, Now can the 545rfe be programmed to use all 6 gears consecutively?

No, when you drive "normally" it just shifts normal.
The gears in (5)45RFE are like 1st, 2nd, 2ndLong, 3rd, 4th, 5th. So when i take off it just shifts 1st, 2nd, 3rd... but when i romp the pedal to the floor it upshifts to 2ndLong and then 3rd, 4th... i hope i explained it well enough. If not, i'll make a video.
If you can get it to fit, 545rfe is a great tranny. Or just get a V8

Yes that does make sense. But what I was wondering is if they can program it to on a normal basis to go: 1,2,2,3,4,5 so it would be turning it into a six speed. Get me? lol. Is there a lock up torque converter with the (5)45rfe?

Its like 1-2-2-3-4-5

The first 2 gear is for up shift the second for down shift.

I have read someplace here at JF That the 545RFE actualy can have up to 8 gears physicly, 2 backwards and 6 forwards but Chrysler never Made Any program for That as far as i know.

I would be like R1-R2-1-2-3-4-5-6
