SLR 4.0 Performance Chip?
Has anyone heard of this or used it? It is a Performance chip from SLR Motorsports it says it will give 50 more horses and 50 more in torque plus 3-6 MPG.
Here is the link http://slrmotorsports.com/shop/index...t_detail&p=398
And for $70 it's not so bad. What do you guys think?

That is a seriously deceptive advertisement. There is NO WAY a simple chip upgrade on a 4.0 is going to produce and extra 50 hp, 50 lb/ft of torque and boost milage 3-6 mpg.
Email them and ask for a dyno sheet. Then you might ask how they determined the 3-6mpg increase. I suspect you will not get a straight answer.
What they will tell you is SOME engines can see 50 hp, most likely turbocharged or supercharged engines that have chip controlled boost. SOME engines will see a milage increase.
If they can produce a dyno sheet for their chip on a 4.0, which I seriously doubt, I bet it shows no more than a 10 hp increase and will require premium fuel to get it.

Wow, it improves every single engine parameter. I'm wondering why jeep engineers didn't do it? They probably didn't know how to write proper ECU program, or didn't have a dyno to do it
When I read advertisement like that I'm 100% sure the product sucks

That thing is the same ebay scam we see over and over again. It plugs into your IAT sensor, giving it a constant reading of like 30 degrees, instead of your IAT sensor being able to do its job and actually determine what the air intake temp is. It's crap, it will give a barely noticeable increase in power by screwing with the timing and not allowing the Jeep to make fine adjustments like it is supposed to be able to, and it should make gas mileage plummet.

Just remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it is. Exhaust headers that will give the 4.0 maybe 10 or 15 ft lbs of torque are a good bang for the buck at around $600. Stroking the engine, which will give similar power increases to those advertised for the chip, can cost anywhere from $1500 to $2000 for a carefully assembled budget build, to $5000+ for an all out high quality build. Excellent bang for the buck increase. If that chip performed as advertised, every single person on this forum would have one. Probably every Jeep anywhere would, because they would have been there from the factory

After doing a Google search for SLR, I came up with this. Anyone install an SLR Motorsports Performane Chip?
Pretty sly stuff.

SLR Chip
I know this is an older thread, but I went to the SLR site because I saw them advertising a 50hp and 50 ft/lbs of torque increase for my 2004 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. I assumed it was BS, but I did a little research.
It turns out that is pretty much what they say on all vehicles. I looked at probably 25 different makes and models and all said the same thing. Additionally, when I went to the numerous testimonials, I realized that all follow the same sentence format and structure, which pretty much means one person wrote them all.
Also, if a company tells you they can give you 50hp and 50 ft/lbs of torque increases for only $69.95, in 10 minutes and with only a chip, they are completely deceiving you. I had a 1997 Golf GTI VR6 and shopped around for a chip from only well known tuners and the best chip for my car, which had the cat back Borla system and a K&N intake, safely gave me about 15hp and 18ft/lbs torque. When you start getting into 20hp+ increases through a chip, on a stock naturally aspirated engine, you are getting to the point that 93 octane fuel is not enough because the timing is bumped to high. That kind of increase may be OK if you are going to run 97 octane or higher racing fuel exclusively, but I don't know anybody that does that. In fact, at that time, I would occasionally put a few gallons of 103 octane and I believe I was paying about $5 per gallon in 1998. Don't know what it is now.
I am likely going with the Super Chips tuner as they are well known and respected in the industry.
Stay away from any company that gives the numbers mentioned above unless they are well known like Super Chips. And even with the well known companies, you will not see anything approaching these gains unless your talking turbo or super charged engines. Even then, its a stretch.
My Rig: 2004 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Upgrades: K&N Air Intake, Banks Stainless Steel Header, Borla Stainless Exhaust, Energy Suspension Poly Bushings, Trail Master SSV Shocks, Rancho Steering Stabilizer, 31x10.50 Firestone Destination AT's
Planned Upgrades: 2" Old Man Emu Suspension Lift, 32x11.50 Firestone Destination AT's, Electric Fan, Super Chips Tuner and a killer stereo system
