silver_laredoSE's Build Thread (WJ)

Alright, I figured it was time for me to start up one of these things as well. I spend a lot of time on JF so why not have my own little notch in the corner? I am however absolutely horrible at remembering to take pics so this will be a little choppy to start off with but as I add more it should get better!

I traded my 97 tahoe

On a 2004 WJ Special Edition 4.7L this is what she looked like the day I pulled her off the lot.

And this is how she sits today

First things first…started out with a maiden voyage on a muddy gravel road.

Then I did not do much as far as modifications until I picked up a set of stainless nerf bars or, disposable sliders, as some call them for $50 at a car shop that was clearing out old stock.

And picked up a set of window visors the same day

Last fall I took a small off road trip up Green Mountain out side of Muddy Gap, Wyoming. I found out very quickly I would need more height as I destroyed my nerf bars and put a couple dents in the fuel tank.

Unloading to set up camp

Camp all set up it was raining like crazy outside by now

Me cheesin for the self portrait

After I knew I would need a lift kit, the mods went pretty slow as I was saving for it.
I painted my grille inserts and closed off my bottom hole

Gearing up for the lifting up

Like I said Im horrible about taking pictures during installs mainly because Im always by myself while doing work…I do recommend having help during installation of a lift kit…other wise you will need lots of jacks!
Before lift:

After lift before tires:

After lift and after tires:

Very clean looking WJ, mild but wild at the same time

Personally, the front grille guard would look awesome if it was color matched, or if you got some black projector headlights. Silver WJ's and projectors is what I over.

thanx man Ive thought about painting it, but I dont want to paint it then get it all scratched up when Im out and about....but its not like I go mowin over trees and stuff so its still an option! As far as projectors, I dont know enough about them, do I need HID's to run in them or are they a simple plug and play?

How do you like the 3 inch lift? I am looking at doing the same. What size tires did you go with and do they rub anywhere?

Loving the lift, but I kick myself everyday for getting the DT8000 shocks. Other than that its amazing the difference a 3in lift will do. The tires I have on my stock wheels are 245/75/16s, I plan on using those to wheel with...my Helos are 17in and I got wide tires, I think they are 265/70's that I just run on the street...it is kind of a pain and Im sure Ill end up scrapping the idea, but thats the plan for now.
