ScrewSounds build thread of a "Jeep named Sara"
Been thinking about making one of these for a while, and only thing holding me back was not having much on my WJ to talk about. Decided to make one anyway for personal reference.

Before I bought my 2002 WJ, I had a '95 Ford Thunderbird with 300k miles on it. Finally had the funds for a new vehicle, and I've always wanted a Jeep. Looked around for a couple months and finally found a guy (who happened to be one of my Dad's friends) with a dark red 2002 WJ Laredo 4.0L with...........46k miles..........I know. I'd even say Jeep catch of the year. So I bought her in May 2010 for $9,000.

It didn't take long before I started making a list of all the things I wanted. This included a good lift, new tires, bull bar, lights, upgraded sound system, etc. It also wasn't long after this that I realized that I didn't have much money for all this. At this point I decided to get the things that were more important to me at the time and that I'd actually have to deal with more often. This meant upgrading the stock radio and replacing the stock sway bar (thats as thick as a piece of wire).

Luckily my friend's father accidentally bought him two Alpine CDA-9883 decks and instead of returning one, he gave it to me for $50.
I do still wanna get new internal speakers and a nice subwoofer, but all that can wait. I really just needed access to my ipod and a better quality sound.

My bud from high school is a Jeep enthusiast, and came to check mine out and remembered that he had an extra addco 1.25" sway bar at his house. He sold that thing to me for $70. I'm surprised how much it helped, because I didn't really enjoy the rocking my jeep had at first, so this stiffer ride was really nice.

When I got her, the headlights were terrible. Instead of polishing them, I was lazy about bought a new pair.

I'm not a big chrome guy, so the next thing that had to change was the grill. Found a nice one on ebay for $25. I feel it brings more of a badass look to it.

I'm at college at the moment, and didn't feel like having all this **** laying in my apartment, so it's in my trunk at the moment. One of my roommates is moving out though, so his room will be my part room :2thumbsup:

That's it so far, more to come as I try to make more money.

Nice Jeep. You'll be glad you started this with it stock. It's a lot more fun to watch it change.

I kinda wish I wouldve started mine when it was stock. I also like the red wj's. Kinda wish mine was red just a little bit.

so this weekend me and some buddies decided to do some mudding...and it was glorious. we had loads of fun. unfortunately we forgot to bring a camera, and by the time i got back i had forgot to take pictures of my jeep after its first mud trip. it was covered tho, let me tell ya.

that was on sunday....over the past few days its been downpouring and the rain washed off all of the mud, which i guess is good...except that it doesnt get the bottom, which i noticed today......

one of these days im gonna have to get down there and clean her out haha

That sucks man. I had my stereo jacked out of my car this year. Did they damage your Jeep at all?

ScrewSound 11-04-2010 03:33 PM

no they didnt, thank god! only the ipod was missing and a couple bucks in change...they left all the pennies and took all the quarters haha

You should paint your cladding and bumpers so they match the grill. I can't decide if I want get a black one for my Limited Steel Blue WJ or to keep the chrome one. Sorry to hear about the stolen iPod. I'm glad I have an iPhone and take it out every time otherwise it would probably end of stolen because I leave it in the cup holder or in that trey thing.

ScrewSound 11-04-2010 08:26 PM

i would use my iphone, but the one of the recent patches made it not compatible with my deck, which sucks. and yea was gonna paint the cladding and bumpers over the summer, but i never had the time, and now the weather sucks to do it. i'll get around to it eventually tho

Bumper, exhaust, inner splash guards?? 500 max From insurance

biggoofy 11-17-2010 12:50 PM

more than that lol. Take the money cut the exhaust just after the muffler put on a turn down and thats fixed. live with the rear bumper and take the money and lift it!

 What are you, an insurance agent?

Insurance quotes include the price of new parts plus the labor to install them - no body shop quote is going to include all that for $500.

The time now is 11:56 AM.
